Demon's Souls - World Tendency Guide

Demon's Souls - World Tendency Guide

La World Tendency is one of the most complex and fascinating mechanics in Demon's Souls, which unfortunately, however, is not explained accurately during the game. This guide is therefore born with the intention of helping the player to discover every secret, so as to be able to find and unlock every equipment and secondary quest. While World Tendency may confuse or intimidate new players, actually manipulating it for your own goals is easier than it sounds. World Tendency can affect the game world in many different ways, and the player's ability to move it from Pure White a Pure Black it is essential if you want to complete the title 100%.

Before leaving to the text, we remind you that in the following lines you may find some major or minor spoilers about Demon's Souls, as regards some playful sections and the narrative sector. We therefore advise you to continue carefully before completing the game in its entirety.

Before starting to modify the World Tendency it is important to know that, unlike the Tendency of our protagonist, the changes we will make will not be instantaneous, but we will first have to go back to the Nexus. First of all, we list the main factors that change the World Tendency, and the reasons why these changes are so important also in the remake of Demon's Souls made by the guys of Bluepoint games.

Move the World Tendency towards White

  • Kill a Boss
  • Kill one of these Black Phantom NPCs:
  • Miralda the executioner (1-1)
  • Scirvir the traveler (2-2)
  • Lord Rydell (3-1)
  • Satsuki (4-1)
  • Selen Vinland (5-2)

Move the World Tendency towards Black

  • Dying in bodily form (within the world we want to change the Tendency)
  • Killing one of these NPCs in body form:
  • Miralda the executioner (1-1)
  • Scirvir the traveler (2-2)
  • Old King Doran (1-1)

The World Tendency will have different effects on the game world depending on whether it is oriented towards Pure White or Pure Black. In the first case the enemies will be weaker, they will give us very few souls by killing them, and they will tend to release more healing items rather than weapons or rare items, such as stones. On the contrary, in the second case we will have stronger enemies who will give us a higher number of souls from their killing, and will tend to drop more rare items and armor rather than healing items. However, keep in mind some aspects: dying in human form, as well as dying in the Nexus it will have no effect on World Tendency.

In addition to the changes listed above, which relatively impact the structure of Demon's Souls, manipulating the World Tendency is the only way you will have to access all the characters and all the items. Below you will find listed all changes related to each world according to their Tendency, as well as a little guide so that you can access each scenario in a single playthrough. Please note that killing an NPC in their body form will cause theirs to appear Black phantom, and viceversa. So try to think of them as two distinct characters by Demon's Souls.

Complete all Demon's Souls events in one run

To unlock all the events related to the World Tendency in a single run you will have to pay attention to never kill the Archdemon of a single world, as you will need to save the game to get the Pure White Tendency after completing the events of the Pure Black tendency. First, play up to the Archdemon of one of the 5 worlds. At this point, commit suicide 5 times, using the stone with ephemeral eyes to return to bodily form between one death and another. Having thus reached the Pure Black Tendency, do not resurrect, but complete all the events in the world related to the Pure Black Tendency without returning to Nexus (which would compromise some quests). When you have completed all the events, finally kill the Archdemon. Once defeated, you will get the Pure White Tendency, which will allow you to unlock the other events related to it. Again, we recommend that you complete them in a row without returning to the Nexus. There remains, finally, that repeat this procedure for all 5 worlds to complete all Demon's Souls events.
