Dreams - Preview of the new work of Media Molecule

Over the years of this videogame generation, many players have expressed a common complaint that unfortunately brought them together. We speak of the lack of variety in the market, of triple A titles that are always the same that keep copying ideas after ideas, bringing to light products that were actually assemblies of solutions already seen, which were extremely stale. However, if large productions have had these limits, imposed mainly by the needs deriving from the very high costs of development, the indie market has instead had the opportunity to surprise players from year to year. Halfway between these two enormous panoramas, he wants to position himself Dreams.

The very many Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios they gave birth to several rather popular works, earning the trust of fans. Among these is also present Media Molecule, an already established software house that has brought to light many projects. Let's talk about the iconic series of Little big Planet, which has characterized the PlayStation panorama, as well as the genius Tearaway. This time, however, the developer has decided to completely change the way to go, exploring territories that had just been touched upon in his previous works. In fact, Dreams aims at the full support of the community, which will make the game a reference masterpiece in the general panorama, as unfortunately a tremendous flop.

The development of Dreams has been going on for many years, but during April 2019 Sony brought the game into Early Access, thus allowing anyone wishing to try it to purchase a version that is not yet final, which continues to be updated and which will be switched to the finished product on day one. The work then entered its gold phase in January of this year and is ready to debut on February 14th. In a recent event held we were able to get our hands on Dreams, discovering more about this new intriguing project: continue reading to find out how it went.

Developers with a Dualshock

The real pearl of the exclusive PS4 Dreams seems to be its creative mode, one of a kind. Approaching some ideas seen in other titles such as Super Mario Maker or the previous Media Molecule works themselves, this allows players to give birth to their own creations and publish them online. In this case, however, we are not dealing with some levels dedicated to following the trail that the developers have given to the main experience, but with real new video games. In fact, the title offers an extremely complete editor, which focuses entirely on simplicity and onintuitiveness, allowing any user to interface with the latter without feeling frustration, which is replaced by the desire to create and interest. While the Dualshock 4 is slightly less suitable than the PlayStation Moves for the purpose, each tool still manages to be appropriate.

Within the creative mode of Dreams it is possible to indulge your imagination and ideas to the fullest, choosing the type of game you want to make in every little facet. It will be possible to range on genres, creating pure or hybrid works, as in the creation of the graphic sector. The title then presents a store, obviously free, full of models made by the community to use in their games. In the event that you are unable to create something as you would like, you can simply choose some of the works of other users, focusing instead on other aspects in first person. The developers then rounded off this editor with the addition of sections dedicated to the sound sector. In fact, it is possible to customize your own soundtrack through the creation of some sounds. The game guarantees the possibility of synthesizing the audio tracks, coupling the individual noises with the various customizable patterns, and then positioning them in the game levels also in this case in a very intuitive way.

Journey among the Dreams

In addition to the creative mode that allows users to forge their own experience, or dream, Dreams basically has two other outlets. To begin with, there is a whole world colored by the creations of other users. It is precisely because of this that the community will decide the eventual success of this exclusive PS4. In fact, we don't have software that is useful only for playing a work we have created ourselves, but the real surprise lies in the possibility to play games created by other users, which are released and made available to all. You can then vote for the ones we liked the most, share them and save them, to be able to relive them with a friend or to see how they will evolve over time.

In all this, even the developers themselves have decided to throw themselves into the fray, proposing an adventure made by themselves. We were also able to taste this experience, which appeared to us to be well structured and interesting. Since anyone can make good stories through the editor, Media Molecule wanted to have its say by releasing a rather story-driven experience, which we can't wait to savor more thoroughly.

Are we ready to dream?

Dreams is now ready to debut, which we remember is scheduled for February 14 2020. In this last test the game turned out to be more complete than ever and the expectations towards the latter are quite high. The developers have put a sensational tool in the hands of the community, which if used in the best way can open a real world within a single game, giving thousands of magnificent experiences to anyone who approaches it. But will players be able to make this happen? We just have to wait to find out!
