DualSense - Review, the new generation in one controller

Among the characteristics that color a new videogame generation it is impossible not to consider the presence of controller. Although there is a tendency to give greater importance to machines and their features, such as the lineup of titles, gamepads remain irreplaceable objects, which accompany the players in all their experiences (except in exceptional cases). While the division Xbox he decided to focus on the already winning horse, his excellent controller for Xbox One, which has only been revised in some parts and improved, Sony has decided to impose itself with its new gem: il Dualense.

A device that differs from the previous ones in terms of design, but which remains similar in shape and offers the symmetrical levers that have always characterized the gamepads of previous generations PlayStation. However, keeping the new features of the DualShock 4 this time around the product offers exclusive features for the gaming market, which had never been structured in this way before. After testing the DualSense on several games, including in particular Astro's Playroom (technical demo specifically dedicated to the controller installed in each PlayStation 5), we decided to talk to you about our impressions and how much this controller can really make a difference in the coming years.

As already mentioned, the design of the product differs in part from the habits of the Japanese house. Just like PlayStation 5, the DualSense has a large part of a white color, with the lower part that remains black. The classic PlayStation keys have obviously remained unchanged, now a symbol of the company, but this time they have been lightened and made almost transparent to achieve a more elegant and futuristic look. A small gem lies in the rough part, which is formed precisely by the aforementioned symbols in a tiny version and guarantees a firm grip with premium feedback. The dimensions have remained more or less unchanged compared to the last generation, even if their slight increase provides greater comfort in terms of grips.

Charging takes place through a socket type C e the battery can last even over 6 hours of play before having to be charged, at least in the first days of use. Clearly its potential lies mainly in the exclusive features, which will have to be implemented in individual games by the developers, and which for the moment have been able to give their maximum result only with Astro's Playroom. Classic controller vibrations are made stunning by haptic feedback, which allows the device to vibrate with infinite different combinations, giving the user continuously different and adaptable sensations to any context.

Both as regards the input commands and the features dedicated to the user, the controller is ultra fast and at present it leaves no room for any type of input lag.

The emotions of DualSense

The DualSense is able to transmit audio of excellent quality, clearly not comparable to that of a real speaker, but perfect to accompany the effects. The microphone is also included in the body and allows you to communicate easily without the use of external headphones, it can also be easily deactivated by pressing the simple button at the bottom. Among the novelties we also find the button Create, evolution of the Share and now more immediate thanks to the PlayStation 5 SSD, as well as a more precise touchpad and futuristic feedback.

The real icing on the DualSense cake, at least in our opinion, concerns the trigger adaptive, which - in addition to providing new unique sensations - make the gaming experiences very different on the gameplay field. Developers can in fact make the triggers harder for each type of weapon, for example, the terrain on which you are walking or perhaps type of machine. The applicable ideas are truly endless and it's amazing how the triggers fit perfectly for every possible application. DualSense - Review, the new generation in one controller

While needing developer support, It is undeniable that the DualSense has made a giant leap over the DualShock 4. From features to design, the uncertainties of the last PlayStation controller have been supremely silenced, especially when you consider the premium feedback of every single part of the controller. We just have to find out how the gamepad's features will be used, from haptic feedback to exciting adaptive triggers. Sony wanted to break away from the competition and offer a unique product, certainly innovative and full of potential to exploit, but now it will have to make sure that its work is done justice in the works for PlayStation 5.
