Kill It With Fire - Review, when arachnophobia turns to madness

One of the most widespread and difficult phobias to overcome in the world is certainly that of insects, and more particularly that of spiders. Those who suffer from arachnophobia have always been fed up with seeing these damned eight-legged beings not only in real life but also in almost all media, from movies to books and finally even in video games. With Kill it With Fire, however, the boys of Casey Donnellan Games published by tinyBuild they have packed a title that will allow arachnophobics around the world to take revenge… and to do so in an extremely blatant way. This wacky and exaggerated indie finally lands on console and mobile and with our review we will dig deep into the re-edition of this very special shooter - already arrived on Steam last year and we have already covered extensively in our special review - which for the occasion we had the pleasure of trying on Nintendo Switch.

Kill It With Fire… but not only!

As we have already anticipated, the title will allow all those who have a repressed hatred towards spiders to take revenge once and for all towards these little creatures who have stormed the protagonist's house. One time declared war on arachnids, we will start with our trusty notebook that we will use to keep track of our goals and, why not, even squash some unfortunate insect that will appear in front of us. Shortly thereafter, however, our arsenal will only increase, both for the number of objects that we will find around the house, and for the combinations that we can obtain by combining them: from hair sprays transformed into dangerous flamethrowers to guns enhanced with bullets immersed in kerosene and so on.

The gameplay of the title, however, does not stop at a simple one "aracnicide" shooter, but it will have several sessions dedicated to exploration, in which we will go hunting for supplies that will be very useful for us, such as batteries for our spider search radar. Furthermore, to eliminate some of these insects we will have to really work with our armaments, trying to understand how to make the most of them. However, once we have entered its absolutely cyclical game routine, Kill It With Fire could be redundant at times, leading to boredom the less imaginative players, who may not want to really push themselves to the madness that the game allows to do with their own. weapons.

Arachnophobia take me away

The real flaw that probably makes the whole Kill It With Fire experience take a big step is his longevity, which unfortunately does not appear to be among the most curated of the independent titles at the moment on the market, and an average player could lead to finished the entire main campaign in a single afternoon. Despite giving one great replayability thanks to the infinite possibilities it offers for our war against spiders, perhaps by finding some power-ups that we missed in the first game, the title really resolves in a few hours, and once we reach the climax that the gameplay offers ... the titles of tail.

Despite this, however, Kill It With Fire manages to entertain for the duration of our gaming sessions, in which users will be continuously overwhelmed by a feeling that blends goliardia and pure madness. The simple but captivating soundtrack and its particular graphic style form a great combo also for this version, which although not offering a very different experience from that for PC, allows many more players to try what on balance is summed up in an absolutely well done indie experience, which unfortunately turns off at the most beautiful moment and from which you always want more. Finally we would like to underline another pro, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version, namely its portability, which makes the title absolutely perfect for a quick game in moments of pause between a train ride or waiting for our number at the post office.
