A few months ago, more precisely in July, we wrote a article very interesting on how the new could be marked Life is Strange 2, title developed and produced by the guys of DONTNOD. In this long editorial we relived all the adventures of the saga, retracing all the salient points of the brand and trying to hypothesize what was expected with the new Life is Strange 2, thanks to all the rumors around the web. The fateful day has come and, having finally tried the first episode called Roads, we can say that this title coincides perfectly with what was said in the aforementioned editorial. Many of our assumptions have found some feedback, but there have been so many twists that have really shocked us in the positive. If you are interested we advise you to continue reading as it seems that this work promises well and we remind you that this first episode will be released on September 27th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
New story, same emotions
One of our doubts, before trying the title, was: will there be the same emotions without Max and Chloe? Will DONTNOD be able to create a new story, new characters and new settings capable of making us excited? We can assure you that Life is Strange 2 manages to do this perfectly: the main characters, Sean and Daniel, were ccharacterized to perfection and in every situation we can identify with them. This is one of the most important features of DONTNOD's products, and in fact the same happened with Max and Chloe. In the first episode the developers have created a really interesting story: without spoilers, at the beginning of a new game we will find the teaser trailer and we will understand only after what really happened. In this episode, as DONTNOD usually does, several very hot topics will be touched upon (alcohol, drugs, sex, racism) and our choices on these issues will influence the story.
Another very interesting detail is having the inventory has been rethought from scratch. One of the few details that the developers hardly ever improved upon was the inventory: in Life is Strange 2 we have a new inventory divided into a backpack (in which we find everything we have inside our backpack and also the objectives), the mobile phone (also recreated from scratch, in which we can read all the messages that arrive to us), the diary ( where the main protagonist, Sean, will rarely draw) and the customization of the backpack. Reading the messages and the diary will make us understand a lot about Sean's personality, as well as wandering around the house and paying attention to every detail.
The music in Life is Strange 2 is perfect, but the graphics ...
As in any Life is Strange, music is a very important element to excite the gamer: in fact, as soon as we start the game and we find ourselves in the main menu, we find quite sad and gloomy music (suitable for what we see in the background); instead, after watching the teaser trailer, we will be able to listen to some happy melodies.
We have to make a different speech for the graphics of Life is Strange 2: perhaps we expected a qualitative leap compared to Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm, but in some cases we have not seen it. The representation of some elements is almost hasty but in others, such as the expressions or some details in the foreground, it is perfect. Finally, even though it just came out and there will certainly be patches to the dayone, the title suffers from some frame rate drops and this undermines the gamer's experience.
A great start
Are we facing a masterpiece of graphic adventures? We still don't know for sure, but we can say that the first episode of Life is Strange 2 sets the stage for a very interesting story indeed and full of questions we still don't know what to answer. The sure thing is that the developers really amazed us with how they dealt with some very hot topics in today's world, we just have to wait for the release of the second episode of Life is Strange 2. Finally, we recommend that you play Life is Strange and The Fantastic Adventures of Captain Spirit (free title) since the choices made in these two chapters will have consequences in this new graphic adventure by DONTNOD.
