PlayStation 5: Jim Ryan expresses himself on the possible exclusivity of Bethesda games

The CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, he seems as eager as anyone else to know if fans of PlayStation 5 will be able to play future games Bethesda. The fate of the next projects of Bethesda Softworks it has in fact been an important talking point ever since Microsoft products announced in September that it intends to acquire ZeniMax Media for $ 7,5 billion. Should the deal be completed, as planned, in early 2021, Xbox Game Studios will grow from 15 to 23 development teams, including Bethesda Game Studios, the creator of the series Fallout and Elder Scrolls, plus the next science fiction game Starfield.

In an interview with the Russian news agency TASS, PlayStation boss Ryan was asked how he felt about the acquisition, and if Playstation 5 players couldn't play The Elder Scrolls 6 or Starfield.

This is a decision that is out of our control, we will wait and see what happens. I can't wait to find out more. We just have a different approach. Our emphasis has been to focus on truly steady, slow but steady organic growth of our studies, selectively supported by acquisitions. We respect the steps taken by our competition, they seem logical and sensible. But we're equally happy and confident, we have better launch lineup than we've ever had in any of our console launches.

Following the announcement of the ZeniMax deal, the boss of Xbox Phil Spencer said Microsoft will honor existing PlayStation 5 exclusive agreements that Bethesda has in place for games such as Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo. For future Bethesda games, Spencer said "we will take other consoles on a case-by-case basis". Finally, Ryan told TASS that "you will probably see some wonderful things in 2022 as it was between 2015/2016 for the previous generation, when generation definition games started rolling out."
