Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt RED does not fear the competition

Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt RED does not fear the competition

It is certainly not new that the titles in this first part of 2020 are subject to continuous debate due to releases postponed or still in doubt (with the most striking case concerning The Last of Us Part 2 and its logistical problems) as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic. However it appears that the Polish development studio CD Projekt RED are convinced that their top title for this year, cyberpunk 2077, will be released as scheduled on September 17, 2020. The most important issue, however, is the great competition that, precisely because of the postponements, was created in those months. The question then arises: what does CD Projekt RED think about it? Are you somehow afraid of such a concentration of parallel outputs?

During a Q&A with investors, Michal Nowakowski, the vice president of business development made it known of don't be worried about the competition and is aware of the importance of the launch period, so they have no plans to move the release date “just” to attract more people. Here is his statement:

We're definitely not planning on moving our date just because someone else might be in the same window. You never launch a title at a time exclusively reserved for you. Does not exist. September has always been a competitive period and we are aware of it, that's okay. We are sure that the title we have created and will be launching at that time will be a must have.

As for September, only the release of Marvel's Avengers, but we will only find out with the passage of time if there will be other releases, given that the situation is in constant change because of the Coronavirus.

We remind you that Cyberpunk 2077 will be available, barring various unexpected developments, on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Google Stadia, PlayStation 4 and PC on September 17, 2020. Only time and communications from CD Projekt RED will be able to tell us if there will be changes on release date, but from the words of Michal Nowakowski it is easy to understand that things will not change, as long as they are not done drastic choices not dictated by the software house but by force majeure.
