Destiny 2: Shadows from the Deep - Review, recall the ghosts of the past

That's the title of Bungie has experienced a succession of ups and downs over time is undeniable, not always due to lack of quality, more because of a constant and incessant pressure from the requests of the ever-growing community (many of which are however well founded). Destiny, with the record of being the longest-lived "swing" brand of this generation of consoles (and now also PC), has seen the new DLC arrive this October XNUMXst "Shadows from the Deep“, Which not only continues the story of the guardians in our solar system, but also represents a turning point from multiple points of view. The most important and disconnected from the gameplay itself is the end of Bungie's collaboration with Activision Blizzard, which has brought radical changes to the management of many issues, from the platforms on which to use the title up to the inclusion of a season pass that can be purchased with the silver. We are clearly not facing a revolution of the scale of that seen between the year 3 of Destiny and Destiny 2 vanilla, but the importance of it is almost comparable to it.

Who dies sees himself ...

… But also those who do not die. To make its appearance for the first time after the events related to Oryx in the first Destiny is in fact Eris Morn, the guardian who survived the horrors of the Hive abyss, and who is now able to harness some of their magic to serve the traveler. However, the situation in which he finds himself immediately is not the happiest. Sent on Luna from Ikora long ago, he comes in contact with a strange one pyramid placed inside the Scarlet Fortress, and it appears that a new type of hive is benefiting from it. In this context it is the dead who return, the red figures with ghostly features that haunt most of the places of the moon ... and people. In fact, Eris will be continually tormented by Eriana's ghost and beyond. Without proceeding further in the information, we can tell you that the games will be far from closed, with an enigmatic and totally open ending of the events.

Without mentioning any big names, this short but indispensable story will take you back in time, especially if you have played Destiny in its entirety, unleashing a nostalgic factor to say the least welcome (even if the most malicious have already branded it as a lack of imagination ed). The festival of returns is not over yet, because the Vex also show up, who awakened from their torpor will catapult themselves to the moon with gods. invasion portals, closely related to some of the activities added with Shadows from the Deep.

Refurbished

Although a taste had already been given to us with the new big update a few days before the release, Shadows from the Deep brought us big news in terms of character management regarding armor, weapons, related modifications and types of strengthening. Now the armature (defined "Armor 2.0") have a slot section called "power", in which to apply the various modifications possessed. Clearly each piece that we are going to apply will have a different cost in energy, and it will therefore be essential to unlock more slots by paying with materials, lumens and fragments, until reaching a maximum of 10. It does not end here, because our level will be determined by the average value of the defense of the armor parts (among other things, going up to level 900 starting from the 750 of deafult will be a sprint, but from then on up to the level cap it will be the usual grind) but mobility, discipline, intellect, recovery and so on will vary for each piece of equipment, with each single item represented numerically and with the reported total highlighted. For weapons, on the other hand, in addition to the standard upgrades to increase the rank of your guns (up to rank 10 which makes them prodigious), there is an empty compartment where you can install a modification, with effect in the description.

Among the new objects that we will find and that will be linked to activities on the moon there are ghostly fragments e phantasmal nuclei, which will give us access to the "essences“, Or companies with different objectives to be achieved in order to have specific weapons or armor as a prize.

In terms of gameplay, however, we find ourselves faced with a couple of very particular small introductions:

  • The Seasonal Artifact: goes to position itself immediately under the wrapper of the Ghost in the customization and equipment screen and as its name will last for the whole season; by opening the analysis window it is possible to choose contents and modifications among those that will be unlocked as the experience accumulates. Restorable.
  • Final move: Equipped like emotes and emblems, finishing moves are an absolute novelty. When the minor and medium enemies are left with low health, by pressing the R3 key (taking the deafult one on PS4) it will be possible to make the final move to definitively KO them Attention however, even during the very short scene we will suffer damage if we are hit, and we will be slightly vulnerable because we will not be able to defend ourselves or escape. Changing it is only equivalent to a more spectacular move aesthetically, there are no different powers.

Activities

The crucible and its modalities have been completely reorganized, as well as the awarding of prizes for the sizes dedicated to Iron Banner. Welcome the inclusion of a couple of maps and the new playlists, with tantalizing modes. The activities introduced instead on the PvE are different, but not excessive: it arrives the Vex Offensive, a sort of menagerie also linked to Ikora's bounties to obtain weapons that are not bad; also present the nightmare hunts (also at the Master level) and the raid "Garden of Salvation“, Which, between joys and sorrows, only partially lived up to expectations. In any case, the year that awaits us is long, and as usual Bungie will not fail to support players every time with new content (this time also reinforced by the presence of the season pass).
