Doom Eternal: An avalanche of Easter Eggs to coincide with Easter

Doom Eternal: An avalanche of Easter Eggs to coincide with Easter

With the arrival of Easter almost upon us, the software house Id Software he wanted to have fun making numerous Easter Eggs cleverly hidden within their latest title Eternal Doom. Tributes, as they define them, dedicated both to the saga itself but also to various films, books and video games. Here it is collected for you:

    1. DAISY. As longtime fans will know, the weakest spot in the space marine, feared by all demons, is not a woman, but her sweet bunny. In fact, there are numerous references to Daisy scattered inside the Fortress of Destiny: a painting or an empty cage to name just a couple. It is also possible to spot the bunny herself in the game, particularly within the second level.
    2. THE LIBRARY OF QUOTES. Many of the funniest quotes are concentrated in the library. It is in fact possible to see the helmet and weapon of Commander Keen, one of the first id Software titles. Then there is a shelf at the top that enjoys a mass of literary references; however, on the lower shelf (on which a Doom Slayer puppet is placed), there are books with titles that refer mainly to the world of video games: Fallout, a hypothetical Prey 2, Half Life, System Shock, Duke Nukem and many others .
    3. DOPEFISH. The hideous green puffer fish, Commander Keen's enemy, can be spotted in the Cultist Base level.
    4. DOOM 1 AND DOOM 2. Inside the Fortezza del Destino it is possible to find an old PC from the 90s. Using it, it is possible to unlock the classic chapters of the series, Doom 1 and 2 and later play them. To be able to do this you will first need to find all 14 floppy disks scattered in the levels, in this way you have access to Doom 1; to unlock Doom 2 instead, just enter the password FLYNTAGGART, which is the name of the protagonist of the DOOM series of novels.
    5. SKATEBOARD. It is possible to see the object next to the desk located in the fortress. This is a clear reference to Tony Hawke's Pro Skater 3. In the PC version of the game, by typing the code “IDKFK”, it is possible to skate as the Doom Slayer.
    6. IDDQD and IDKFA. These cheat codes, scattered in the form of 14 collectible floppy disks, actually have literary significance. ID stands for id Software, DQD stands for Delta Q Delta (a fictional fraternity one of the programmers of Doom belonged to) and KFA stands for Keys in Full Ammo. These two codes were finally usable in the classic Doom chapter to unlock all weapons and upgrade armor.
    7. CONVENIENCE STORE. In the ARC Complex level you will find a convenience store full of references to id Software such as Dopefish and Commander Keen candies or a packet of jerky with the face of Hugo Martin (creative director of Doom Eternal).
    8. TERMINATOR. As happened in the 2016 DOOM reboot, DOOM Eternal also has a clear reference to the famous death of T-800 in Terminator 2. If you choose to dive into the incandescent lava and the bath lasted too long, just before the protagonist died it will imitate the classic "thumb up" gesture.
    9. UNMAYKR. In Doom Eternal it is possible to use the Unmaykr crossbow, the secret weapon of DOOM 64. This powerful weapon is kept inside the Fortress of Destiny and to unlock it will not be entirely easy. You will need to find all 6 Slayer Keys, open the related Slayer Gates and complete the Challenges to get the Empyrean Keys.
    10. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! The classic balloon with the words "Happy Birthday!" present in various chapters of the game has returned to make its appearance also in Doom Eternal.
    11. SPRITE AND CLASSIC TEXTURE. Although there are no levels taken from the most classic titles of the saga, it is still possible to find 2D sprites, textures and retro sound effects taken from the first two chapters of Doom.
    12. ENEMIES. Who does not die sees himself again and the weather has been kind to the enemies of the Doom Slayer. Their design in DOOM Eternal is very reminiscent of the demons and zombies seen in DOOM 1 and 2, naturally revisited in a modern way. The zombie soldiers are striking for the accurate 3D transposition, but it is the Cyberdemon who steals the show: completely redesigned in DOOM 3 and in the 2016 chapter, finally in DOOM Eternal returns to its classic aspect.
    13. FINAL BOSS. This Easter Egg contains SPOILERS! The final boss of the game we know is the fearsome DOOM Sin. Right in the DOOM 2 finale we had to collide with a huge demon head embedded in a wall in which John Romero's head was present. Since then, all players have been clamoring for a real challenge against DOOM Sin. No sooner said than done! This time, however, there seems to be no trace of poor John Romero, however, the design of the final boss is clearly inspired by that of the second chapter.
    14. POST CREDITS. Once the game is over, don't be rushed and don't skip the thing titles. Immediately after, in fact, it is possible to see a deleted scene of a zombie playing with two collectables.

Finally, we leave you to our review of the title here.
