Doom Eternal: here's how to upgrade to next-gen consoles for free

Through a communication published on the company's official website, Bethesda officially stated that the owners of Doom Eternal in physical or digital format on Xbox One or on PlayStation 4, will have the opportunity to download a free graphic upgrade for next generation consoles Xbox Series X e PlayStation 5. Doom Eternal will be backward compatible with next-generation consoles since their official release, but the updates, which currently do not yet have an official release date, will only be released later on both platforms. Likewise, it will be possible to transfer all save data on next-generation consoles, you'll simply need to log in with the same Xbox Live or PlayStation Network account used to create the save. Here are the details of the passage of the title to the next-gen, available on the official website of Bethesda.

We have high expectations for the new consoles and are pleased to announce that DOOM Eternal will be one of our first titles to receive a free upgrade to the new generation. The title will be backwards compatible with next-generation consoles as of their release, and will receive dedicated updates thereafter. The exact date such updates will be available will be announced at a later date. The upgrade will cover both physical and digital copies of the game, but be aware that it will not be possible to do it with physical copies for the playerless versions of the next generation consoles. A broadband internet connection is required.

    • Upgrading your valid copy of the game is very simple! As soon as the upgrade is available, the Xbox Series X and Series S will use Microsoft's Smart Delivery system to automatically apply it to valid copies of games. This applies to both physical and digital versions of the title. If you have a physical copy of the game for Xbox One, you'll need to insert the disc into the Xbox Series X to receive the upgrade, and the disc will always be needed to play.
