DualSense: The device will use sound effects to generate vibrations

Sony recently confirmed that the controller Dualense to PlayStation 5 will be able to generate a tactile feedback based on the corresponding game sound effects. The news came today straight from a recently unveiled Sony report on the company's technology: new details on Sony's next-generation controller are briefly discussed in the middle of that report, including information on how it will respond to gaming actions via the much-acclaimed feature. :

While DualSense will allow for more realistic gaming experiences, creators will also need more time and know-how to create high-quality vibes. The goal of our development was deep neural network technology, but the problem was that there were few previous studies that applied this technology to the sense of touch rather than to images and sounds.

In the beginning, we spent many days pummeling about the data. Next, we studied and examined different algorithms and got expert advice. This allowed us to automate the generation of high quality vibration waveforms to some degree, making it appear that they were created manually by the creators.

The report continues noting that to reduce this burden, Sony has implemented a brand new haptic feedback design specifically geared towards game creators. As a tool, this should hypothetically allow developers to create vibration waveforms faster than before, allowing them to skip multiple steps previously required for the controller.
