The winners of the Gotham Awards 2021, the prizes that traditionally kick off the film award season, with the 30th edition organized in a hybrid between virtual and face-to-face. Nomadland by Chloé Zhao, the most awarded film of this season so far and already the Golden Lion at the last edition of the Venice Film Festival, continues its run towards the Oscars with two other awards: best film and audience award. Kelly Reichardt's First Cow despite four nominations left the awards ceremony empty-handed. Rice Ahmed was awarded Best Actor for the film Amazon Sound of metal while Miss Juneteenth's Nicole Beharie won Best Actress. Other winners include two ex aequo: the first for best screenplay (“The Forty-Year-Old Version” and “Fourteen”) and the second for best documentary (A Thousand Cuts and Time).
