More than three years have passed since the release of the first J directed by Colin Trevorrow. A film that in its time has completely revolutionized and modernized a historical saga that seemed now untouchable and that just this year it turns twenty-five years since its debut on the big screen. The task of structuring a follow-up for the profitable blockbuster this time was entrusted to Juan Antonio Bayona, with his new one Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

The Spanish director said he wanted to give a darker and more terrifying atmosphere in his new effort, thus premising a return to original atmospheres that have fascinated us so much over the years. So this film will be able to make us passionate and terrified again in front of these prehistoric creatures that have now become a habit at the dawn of the fifth chapter of the series?

After the tragic events of Isla Nubar the park has been completely abandoned by any kind of human life form. Its inhabitants, once regaining possession of the island, have lived in peace and complete freedom to this day, but a new threat sees these overgrown reptiles again in danger of extinction. The volcano of the island has awakened threatening to erase any form of life that inhabited it and putting our civilization in front of a new moral dilemma. To intervene and preserve these miracles of genetics or to let nature still take its course?

With a wink to fans of the original work, we note with pleasure among the various interventions an old acquaintance like the Doctor Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) comment on this. In favor of saving the creatures we find again Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), former park curator now head of an association for the protection of dinosaurs and intent on doing everything to keep them safe. Thanks to the project by Eli (Rafe Spall) and the financing of Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell) John Hammond's old colleague, the young woman manages to take part in a recovery expedition accompanied by the indomitable Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) to save as many species as possible. It goes without saying that once you arrive at your destination, nothing will go as planned.

The destroyed kingdom it is definitely something different and unusual compared to what we have seen so far. All this, both for good and for bad. Except for one fairly classic initial part and from the flavor already seen, the title immediately takes on a more hue macabre and dark; raising the inevitable comic curtains and exchanges of jokes between the old protagonists and the new characters introduced, the plot apparently seems more mature and more structured compared to its predecessor. Probably thanks to the entire line of feature films with the same subject, the characteristic chases by predators hindered only by their size too large to slip into the narrow spaces in which their victims shelter, will lose enough of bite sight repetition and habit in each of the titles released so far.

Fortunately for us there will be moments of suspense and thrill expertly scattered and distributed throughout the duration of the screening. Although years and years of dinosaur movies have prepared us to see everything, we have to admit that J continues to surprise us by making us go back to the glories of the past, between an exaggerated action scene and another. A painful ending with unexpected implications, already implies that in the next few years we will see a final and compelling final film.
