Newzoo: the 2019 gaming market estimates have been revised downwards

Newzoo, one of the most important international market analysis agencies, had forecast in mid-2019 a number of global sales in the videogame market equal to 152.1 billion dollars which, unfortunately, have been revised even if slightly downwards. In fact, initially the increase in turnover compared to the previous year was forecast at a value of 9.6%, with the United States that would overtake China and consequently become the largest market in the world.

Unfortunately, what was expected did not happen. The new forecasts estimate global revenues of 148.8 billion dollars, a decline of "just" 3.3 billion. Nonetheless, the agency remains confident about the growth of the sector, assuming record revenues of € 2022 billion by 189. The mobile and console markets will account for around 80% of all revenue.

In recent months, the market has not been very active, which is why revenues have been revised downwards, also due to the imminent release of the new next generation consoles that should arrive at the end of 2020. Consequently, hardware purchases but also software have gone down as they normally do when going through a transition period at the end of a life cycle.
