With 41,67 million units sold, Nintendo Switch is among the successful consoles. Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel Ahmad posted some tweets comparing the first 6 years of launch of the various consoles.
Here is a look at cumulative global console shipments for key consoles (Launch aligned).
After 31 months on the market, the Nintendo Switch has sold in 41.67 million units and is tracking alongside PS4 and PS2 which were at a similar total in the same timeframe. Wii was ahead. pic.twitter.com/Hd4ZKDXEkG

As Ahmad points out, Switch has only spent 31 months on the market compared to the 72 examined, falling into a trend similar to that of the PlayStation 4 and Playstation 2. The sales of Wii, on the other hand, seem rather distant, settling on a tens of millions more units in the same period since its release. The end of this race is still far away and the release of new exclusives could help Switch in sales thus allowing it to keep up with or surpass the other consoles, although it can already be considered a great success.
