Playstation 5: according to Mark Cerny the sale price will be attractive

On yesterday's day Sony decided to share the first information on Playstation 5. In a long interview with Wired, the lead system architect Mark Cerny confirmed that the new console will offer gamers backward compatibility, 8K support and SSD hard drives among other features. However, an important detail did not emerge from the interview, namely how much will all this power cost? To this question he answered Peter Rubin, the lead architect interview author. The journalist on his Twitter account has in fact published unpublished excerpts of the conversation in which Cerny replies on the subject:

I believe we will be able to release it at a price that will be very attractive to players, especially in light of its advanced features. That's all I can say about it.

Recall that Sony's current home console was launched in 2013 at a price of 399 euros, as was the more powerful PS4 Pro version a few years later. So it is likely that given the characteristics the new console will have a higher price but Sony will hardly exceed the ceiling of 500 euros.

So: this didn't make it into my PlayStation story, but given how much people are speculating about the Sony console's price (esp given the SSD / chip combo), thought I should probably give a tiny little bit of interview transcript on it. (1/2)

Me: There's always been a general range of launch pricing. Will the next console hew to that range? @Cerny: I believe that we will be able to release it at an SRP [suggested retail price] that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set.

Me: Meaning that it may cost a bit more but what you're getting is well worth it? @Cerny: That's about all I can say about it.
