PlayStation 5 will sell twice as much as the Xbox Series X according to a report

According to sources, they are supplying the stores with PlayStation 5 e Xbox Series X, it looks like the next generation of consoles already has a winner. In fact, Digitimes, a publisher covering global supply chains for technology, has compiled a report dedicated to consoles, reporting that PS5 aims to ship 120 million copies, roughly half the number rumored to sell Xbox Series X.

They also suggest that the PS5's lifespan will be shorter than that of previous consoles, here are the statements:

The lifecycle of home game consoles can be shortened to five years from 6-7 years, and PS5 shipments can reach 120-170 million units at the end of its 5-year cycle, up from 110 million units recorded so far for PS4s launched in November 2013. Sony recently increased its PS5 shipments estimate for 2020 to nearly 10 million units.

While it is clearly too early to speculate on sales, the information is coming directly from supply chains and Sony will certainly have placed orders for components for years to come to give a rough indication of production plans.

Amazon recently released some PlayStation 5 dedicated listings, suggesting that the gaming station may need to be strengthened since the console weighs 4,78 kg. To give a more precise idea, it is a slightly heavier weight than the launch model of the PlayStation 3, over 2 kg heavier than the current PlayStation 4.

At present we know what the PlayStation 5 will look like on an aesthetic level and some of the games that will run on the new generation, but what about the alternative uses of the hardware? Matt Maclaurin Sony, vice president of UX Design on PlayStation, revealed that they have been working on a "100% overhaul of the PS4 user interface", contrary to the decision of Microsoft products to keep the Xbox Series X system user interface the same as that of Xbox One.

MacLaurin answered questions via LinkedIn (an unusual choice for talking to console players) revealing some curiosities but without going into too much detail. The man defines the new interface as "pragmatic", although it has been 100% overhauled and modified. We remind all interested parties that PlayStation 5 will be out towards the end of the year, between November and December.
