Psychonauts 2: Tim Schafer shows us a new gameplay video

After starting the crowdfunding campaign in 2015, Double Fine Productions has finally released a first gameplay video of Psychonauts 2. It seems therefore that the platform adventure is finally approaching its eagerly awaited debut. According to the latest statements by Tim Schafer, leader of the software house acquired last year by Microsoft products, work on the title is now nearing the polishing stages, since Psychonauts 2 includes all the content it needed.

2020 has certainly not accelerated the development process, but by now we have substantially everything in the game ”, his words to IGN USA microphones. “We are close to finishing the work, for the most part we are carrying out cleaning operations of content already present.

Although Microsoft has acquired Double Fine, Psychonauts 2 will still be released on PlayStation as well. Schafer then spoke of the software house's projects on a possible involvement for Banjo-Kazooie:

It's interesting to think about it, but I think it's not the best for Double Fine, because what we do well is invent things. People have somehow got it into their heads that we have to play a Banjo-Kazooie game. Why should we do this? Have you ever heard of this study called Rare? I think they are still around. It's nice to think about it, and it's nice that people connect colorful and fun platformers to us to play. But… We will do something new that you will enjoy just as much.

Psychonauts 2 will be released in 2021 for PS4, PC, Xbox Series X | S and Xbox One. The game was originally crowdfunded on Fig, where it amassed nearly four million dollars at the beginning of 2016. Psychonauts 2 suffered several delays, in fact it was delayed from 2019 to 2020 and finally from this year to 2021. However, the images of this first gameplay bodes well: the game should not be far away.
