Rockstar: Single player content development will not be abandoned

The success of Grand Theft Auto 5 there is no doubt and GTA Online has contributed to increasing this success also thanks to its latest expansion: The Cayo Perico Heist. Rockstar in recent years it has in fact basked in the success received, taking all the time to quietly create the next main game in the series, at the expense of further expansions and post-launch single player content GTA V, unlike what happened instead for its predecessor GTA IV.

Tarek Hamad, the director of design at the production of Rockstar North spoke about the company's future plans during an interview conducted by Sam White for the magazine GQ. Hamad argues that Rockstar "absolutely" intends to continue making single player video games. Not that the solo part of the game has been abandoned, far from it, and this can also be seen with the latest expansion released for GTA Online. The Cayo Perico Heist has a perfect combination of single player and multiplayer, designed specifically to entertain users on both sides. In the same interview, Scott Butchard, design director for Rockstar, states, "I think going forward we will introduce more of these single player elements into the interior," adding:

It is something we wish to carry on. We want to respect teams and players who want to play co-op. At the same time it still allows solo players to get an equally good experience out of it. There are benefits to both. If you go there alone, you are taking 100% of the loot and it is much easier to be stealthy and plan when you are not in communication. With multiple players you can split up and do multiple things at the same time. You can take multiple secondary objectives, so I can send Tarek to the control tower to take down the air defenses as I start looting from the small stacks of money.

In short, Rockstar does not stop and continues to want to make its single player titles, despite the great success of GTA Online that does not stop and continues on its way, increasing its fame. We remind you that Grand Theft Auto 5 will be released in 2021 also on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S and that when it arrives it will bring with it several new contents. As for instead GTA 6, which was just mentioned this summer, seems to be definitely under development. We therefore await good news pending news on this.
