Starfield: Sony had almost achieved temporal exclusivity on PlayStation 5

Starfield: Sony had almost achieved temporal exclusivity on PlayStation 5

The afternoon of this Monday 21 September cannot be said to have passed on the sly. Like a bolt from the blue, Microsoft products announced that it had acquired the parent company of Bethesda Softworks, ZeniMax Media, and with it therefore to have come into possession of all those that are the main sagas of the various companies that are part of it, among which some names of very high prestige certainly stand out such as The Elder Scrools, DOOM, Fallout, Starfield and many others. While this move shows just how much Microsoft products and its division Xbox want to invest in their own titles and in future exclusives, thus giving greater incentives to future buyers of Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X, on the other hand there are those who begin to bite their nails for fear of seeing different titles parade in front of their eyes much loved by PlayStation owners and beyond.

As if that were not enough, the former author of Game Informer Imran Kahn stated that Sony had been very close to obtaining temporal exclusivity on PlayStation 5 of the sci-fi RPG Starfield. These are his words on the very recent purchase of Microsoft and on the attempt now failed by the Japanese company:

The timing of this announcement is truly amazing because it takes place the week after Sony's consolidation of certain Bethesda exclusives and even the day before the start of the Xbox Series X and S pre-orders. Furthermore, Sony has tried to negotiate with Bethesda. the eventual exclusive time on Starfield for PlayStation 5 just a few months ago. By now I believe that there is no more hope or, if anything, the price to be reached to obtain the loot has increased drastically.

For the uninitiated, the agreement that was signed today brings ben into the coffers of ZeniMax 7,5 billion dollars, but will allow the Redmond company to be able to distribute Bethesda games directly on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

FUN NOTE: Sony had been negotiating timed exclusivity on Starfield as recently as a few months ago. Going to guess either those talks are done or the price suddenly went way, way up.
