After the countless slips and cancellations of many events and fairs ranging from one type of market to another, even the Cannes Festival 2020 it risks failing like many others. The reason is soon said, due to worldwide epidemic from Coronavirus, any event involving gatherings of people cannot be held in any way. Especially in a land like France which is, unfortunately, starting to fight seriously with the epidemic right now.
According to a recent interview with Le Figaro, President Pierre Lescure officially stated that if this emergency continues to expand and no improvement occurs by April, the entire event will be canceled. It also addressed the issue of the insurance waiver by the Circle Group, as you can read below:
“We received this offer about 10 days ago, but at the time it was totally disproportionate. They offered us just € 2 million when our entire budget is 32. Basically crumbs. The company was behaving like a bounty hunter does and so we declined the offer ”.
With the hope that this epidemic will end as soon as possible, if it reaches its peak in March and will be more contained in April, then the 2020 Cannes Film Festival will be moved from 12 to 23 May.
