The Falcon and The Winter Soldier - Review of the first episode on Disney +

After the end of Avengers Endgame many characters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe they found themselves a bit without a point of reference, and the two protagonists of this series are no exception. Indeed The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, as the title says, is about the lives of Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and James Barnes (Sebastian stan) after the events following the defeat of Thanos, and in particular following the death of Captain America, Steve Rogers. Character to whom both of our heroes were very close, and who had given them the hope of a new life. After his departure, however, the two will have to learn to get by completely alone ... or almost.

The series will land on the streaming platform Disney + starting from March 19, with an average duration of 50 minutes per episode. Today here we bring you our impressions on the first episode, going to give an overall judgment without, of course, making spoilers of any kind.

Aimlessly

As can already be guessed from the trailers and from the end of Avengers Endgame, in which Steve Rogers decides to abandon his role and retire, the two protagonists of the series, Sam and Bucky, they find themselves disoriented. Where the first, despite Captain America has seen in him his worthy successor and has entrusted him with the shield, he does not believe he is ready or worthy to keep it and therefore to take on the role of the next symbol of American justice. While the second, who has lost his greatest friend and the only true point of reference in this future unknown to him, is not sure how he will have to continue his life. Especially after the vicissitudes of Captain's America: The Winter Soldier e Civil War in fact, James Barnes experiences more than ever the trauma derived from mind control by theHydra and, although he tries and strives to be able to re-enter society as an ordinary citizen, now that his friend has passed away this seems a more difficult task than ever. In addition to all this there will also be another imminent problem that is starting to generate havoc among people, it seems in fact that the two will not be able to wallow too much in their problems, but they will probably have to make a common front against the new threat.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier - Review of the first episode on Disney +

This first episode revolves entirely on this pivotal point, trying to show and make the viewer understand this as much as possible sense of inadequacy that both characters are trying, also managing to manage in an excellent way the time on stage of both of them without one ever prevailing over the other. Courtesy of one really very good direction, able to quickly focus on the actions and the fundamental points of the various scenes, without ever becoming "dirty" or moved. This is especially noticeable in the action scenes, and in particular in the initial one, where, despite the scenes intertwining frantically between ground clashes and air clashes, everything happens in a totally fluid and without jolts, thus allowing the viewer to enjoy a beautiful fight. This, thanks also to what seems to be another very high point in this production: the special effects, very enjoyable and never too tacky or exaggerated, they look like those of one of the great films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which suggests both the budget for the series and its actual use.

Hypothesis on the future of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

As you can easily guess from the title, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the two heroes will most likely soon come together and team up. If not against the first villain we notice in the series, themasked man that we see stealing something and escaping from a building with the help of many civilians, at least in wary of the new Replacement Captain America. In fact, it is conceivable that the final scene in which this new character is presented to us, who should take the place of becoming the new symbol of justice, will be the keystone that will move the soul of the two heroes, giving them the necessary strength to put themselves in the show and recognize their own merits and goals. Another theory that given the previous ones The Marvel movies it could reveal itself, it concerns Bucky, that is, if, as we well know, the world still does not fully trust him, they could accuse him for the whole matter relating to that gang with a handprint as a symbol, which would frustrate all his attempts to reintegrate into society. .

A final food for thought instead we could spend it on what is the personal goal of James Barnes. As we are shown in a flashback while in a session with the psychologist in fact, our centenary soldier is going to meet old people from his past (probably still with a pro hydra ideology?), And after having scared them a little he introduces himself to them in the renewed guise that tries to sew on themselves, or rather del civil James Barnes, and no longer theWinter Soldier assassin. Very particular as a fact, given that precisely after this presentation scene the name of the target is simply checked from the notebook, marking that it has been completed. Is it all a psychological mechanism that Bucky needs to regain total control over his psyche, or is there an ulterior motive that is still not clear to us?
