The second episode of WestWorld does nothing but increase all our doubts, questions or perplexities, not only because the series reintroduces two characters that we thought had left the scene but above all because the narrative style is changed, introducing more timelines, two that are probably separated by two weeks, but that according to the producers could provide answers in a shorter time.
The importance of time
In this second episode it was highlighted the importance of timelines, not only with regard to the timing of the scenes but also thanks to the introduction of separate flashbacks and places in various moments of the past whose purpose is to fill in gaps that they absolutely wanted to fill. The importance of the past is so traced that in this episode we almost never see the recent timeline, so that the narrative space oscillates between two different pasts.
Hosts and their new role
We discover that the hosts are also used outside the park, as we could have guessed but it seemed like little information and that instead turns out to be of crucial in the context of new events.
Personal evolution
The main theme, however, remains that of evolution, whether it is a host or a human being. As we saw in the previous episode, the interested characters were Dolores, Maeve, William but also Teddy. But the fundamental change is precisely what affects humans, especially that of Logan and William, from the investment of the Delos to the takeover of William. Will be shown all the steps that will make William the Black Man, also through a profound monologue. A far more realistic and tragic vision is what Logan will have.
Maeve vs Dolores
Another important point of the episode revolves around the long-awaited meeting between Maeve and Dolores: the comparison between the two is necessary, although Maeve followed a path designed by her creator, while Dolores simply "broke" the shell where she was.
Another important issue concerns freedom: on the other hand, although Dolores is continually trying to shake off the chains of imprisonment, her crusade carries with it Teddy, which to the question of Maeve concerning his freedom, now loyal puppy to Dolores, is true. The answer does not come from the boy, and this suggests an as yet unknown future development.
There are still many doubts and questions, although we are moving towards some certain answers. Characters more and more human and human more and more interesting, more intense stories and mysteries that thicken. That's why WestWorld doesn't bore, or at least it didn't with me. The continuous evolution of events makes us more and more involved and more active throughout history and this is how it should be.
