Good Night, Knight - Preview, a knight that is anything but asleep

Good Night, Knight is the first title developed by RedEmber and published by No Gravity Games. To showcase their skills, the developers have launched their game in Early Access on Steam, so that anyone who decides to trust these indie developers can check your progress as you go that additions are made. What game is that? Here's our preview of Good Night, Knight.

Knight, wake up!

Good Night, Knight starts in the simplest way possible: we will have to choose the name of our character ... and then we will have in front of thepermadeath option, permanent death: in a nutshell, if you were to die, you will have to start over, while if you want to a quieter game, you can simply turn it off and respawn. But who are we? A simple knight who, after reaching the top of a tower, is defeated and thrown away, starting a long fall, towards the end. Yet a platform saves us, so that we can reach the place unknown to us players and start over. When we finally reach the earth, we will meet other knights, whom the game calls "useless", useless. After a small series of funny gags that break through the fourth wall, we will receive a quest. From here our adventure begins. What is our goal? Stop an ancient prophecy.

Hack-and-slash with RPG mechanics and more

Good Night, Knight joins a series of mechanics in one title: the sure thing is that we have an RPG in front of us, so expect fights with the sword. Not only that, stealth mechanics are also included and procedurally created dungeons. What does it mean? Each time you die the map will change randomly. As if that were not enough, there are also some puzzles, of which few are really complicated.

As for its gameplay, it is a typical top-down role-playing game, therefore with a view from above. To survive you will have to learn how to use the weapons at your disposal and develop your knight, not only as regards his style, but also for some choices that will determine which path you want to follow. The combat system is relatively simple. As in almost all RPGs you will have one life bar and one for stamina. A light attack will take away little stamina, a heavy attack will lower it more. It is also possible to dodge and block enemy attacks with the shield. Obviously, even to perform these actions you will pay with stamina, which will automatically recharge after standing still for a while. Enemies can inflict negative statuses, such as frost, but they can be removed using some potions, similar to life recovery.

A very special and unique mechanic of Good Night, Knight is about the way enemies are seen: you will see your enemies only when you look at them, or more precisely, when there is effective eye contact. If, for example, an enemy is behind a column, you will never be able to see him. Although it seems like a very hardcore game, there is actually a moment when you are safe from every single enemy, which is when you are at the base of the tower from which we fell. Here, you will find lots of NPCs to interact with. There is a shop, you will have a house (where it will be possible to regain health points while sleeping) and an area to craft objects to use during our adventure.

The journey of our fallen knight will be filled with some items to collect, but don't worry about reaching the transportable limit. In fact, every “extra” item will be automatically added to a chest available within the game HUB, the base of the tower mentioned above. As for the type of peripheral you can use to play Good Night, Knight, we strongly recommend that you use the controller rather than the mouse and keyboard.

Sleeping pixel art

Good Night, Knight is built with a very pretty pixel art, which does not offer anything excessively particular, but which offers particular plays of light developed to make people understand the special mechanics of sight. The color palette used is quite interesting, given that everything it should be blue turns purple, as happens for example at the sea. The animations are well done and always give the feeling of dynamism.

The thing that interests most is certainly the answer to the question "is it worth buying Good Night, Knight at present?" Our answer is absolutely yes. Due to its hybrid nature, RedEmber's title is perfect for everyone. Whether you are a hardcore gamer or a player who prefers a much quieter type of game, this title is for you. It is not complicated to learn and the permadeath offers that extra level of challenge which manages to please everyone, without counting the many hours offered thanks to the addition of this mode.

Plus, its funny dialogues manage to dampen the tension between one dungeon and another, which manages to be a lifesaver for those who aren't used to excessive levels of challenge. The title is available for 12,49 euros on Steam, and if you think the game is still underway, the chances of it getting even better are high.
