Basically you just have to go through one procedure to fix this, although I will also give you an alternative if your phone is unresponsive after doing the first procedure. Fixed Galaxy A40 not turning on
When a phone turns itself off and becomes unresponsive or won't turn on, you can always expect it to be a firmware crash, as long as there are no signs of physical and / or liquid damage. If, for example, your phone got hit by something hard or dropped on a hard surface and then this problem occurred, then most likely the problem is with the display or more serious than that.
If you knew your phone has physical or liquid damage, there is no point in fixing it. Just take it back to the shop and have it checked by a technician. But assuming you just found that your phone is stuck on a black screen and won't turn on or respond, then here's what you should do:
First solution: force restart your Galaxy A40
The first thing you need to do if your phone no longer turns on or unresponsive and gets stuck on a black screen is the forced restart. It is a simulated battery removal which is very effective in fixing firmware crashes and other minor system problems. In fact, it might be the only thing you need to do to get your Galaxy A40 working perfectly. Here's how you do it on your phone:
- Press and hold the Volume Down button and don't release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, also press and hold the power key.
- Press and hold both keys together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A40 logo appears on the screen.
If you have managed to get the phone to respond or if the logo actually appears on the screen, the problem is already solved. You were able to get your phone to respond again simply by doing the forced restart. However, if it still doesn't turn on after the first solution, then move on to the next procedure.
Second solution: charge your phone and force restart
I'm sure you have already thought that this could be due to a dead battery and you may have already tried to connect the phone to its charger, but it is still not responding. Well, there are times when simple battery drain causes the system to crash just before the phone shuts down due to insufficient power.

- Plug the charger into a working wall outlet.
- Using the original cable, connect your phone to the charger.
- Regardless of whether your phone shows the charging symbol or not, leave it connected to the charger for at least 10 minutes.
- After that and while the phone is still connected to the charger, press and hold the Volume Down button and don't release it yet.
- While holding down the volume button, also press and hold the power key.
- Press and hold both keys together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A40 logo appears on the screen.
If you have managed to get your phone working again by doing any of the procedures here but the problem occurs from time to time then you just need to reset your device as some of its data files may have been corrupted or already out of date. Just back up your important files and then remove your Google account. If ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the key Volume up and the key Bixby , then press and hold the key power on .
- When the Galaxy A40 logo appears, release all three keys.
- Your Galaxy A40 will continue to boot into recovery mode. When a black screen with blue and yellow texts appears, proceed to the next step.
- Press the key several times Volume down to highlight “wipe data / factory reset”.
- Press the Power button to select.
- Press the button Volume down until “Yes” is highlighted.
- Press the Power button to select and start the master reset.
- When the master reset is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
- Press the power button to restart the device.
On the other hand, if the phone still does not turn on after doing these procedures, you have no choice but to take the phone back to the store so that a technician can verify it.
