Yesterday Nintendo released the trailer for Paper Mario: The Origami King, new title in the series of Paper Mario which will be released exclusively on Nintendo Switch il July 17 2020. The trailer in question, in addition to showing the first images of the Nintendo title, also has a nice inside Metroid-themed easter egg. At the end of the trailer, in fact, we see Paper Mario wearing Samus' iconic helmet. while one of the characters comments on it saying: “Ah, this is something you don't see every day”.
Obviously, this led to the beginning of various speculations on the subject by fans of the saga and beyond. As we know at E3 2017 was announced Metroid Prime 4, a new title in the series that was initially supposed to be developed by Bandai namco studios. Due to the unsatisfactory results, Nintendo later decided to entrust the development to the guys of Retro Studios, developers of the previous chapters, restarting the project from scratch after two years of work.
The helmet that Paper Mario wears in the trailer has the design seen in the series Premium, and not the one seen in the classic 2D Metroid. It is therefore possible that this easter egg would like to suggest a possible announcement on the fourth installment of the series starring Samus Aran. Or, much more likely, it could simply be a nice reference to one of Nintendo's historical sagas.
