How to transfer data to a Xiaomi / Redmi / Poco / Mi phone

So you bought a new phone and want to know how to transfer data to a Xiaomi / Redmi / Poco / Mi phone, you have landed in the right place. With smartphones at increasingly affordable prices, buying one has become normal. However, moving data between the old phone and the new one can be tricky.

Many people will choose to transfer data to a computer and then to the new phone. Historically, that was what needed to be done. Or, users backed up what they could to a microSD card. Today, smartphone manufacturers have dedicated apps that make this process easy, efficient and hassle-free for the user.

This guide will teach you how to move all your personal data (SMS, calls, apps, photos, etc.) from your old phone to a Xiaomi branded phone. You won't have to worry about copying data to a computer or removable storage.

As Xiaomi evolves and expands into sub-brands, one might think that each of them will require their own set of migration apps. However, while they are all sold under different names, they all work using Xiaomi's custom MIUI experience.

As long as the phone is running MIUI, this guide will work on Redmi, Mi, Poco or any other brand under the Xiaomi umbrella.

Pre-requisites:

Install Mi Mover on the phone you are transferring data from and on the Xiaomi phone you are transferring data to. Have both phones at 80% charge if there is a lot of data. In most cases, Mi Mover comes pre-installed in Xiaomi phones.

Once Mi Mover is installed, open the app on your Xiaomi phone and choose "I am a recipient".

You may get a prompt on your Xiaomi phone to install the app via a QR code, if it shows up, just tap “Installed. The transfer begins. "

Launch the app on your old phone and grant permissions on both phones where required. When the app is loaded, choose “I'm a sender” on your old phone.

You will have to wait for the Xiaomi phone to appear on the old phone, or you can manually connect to the hotspot by browsing your Wi-Fi on your old phone and manually selecting the hotspot using the SSID name mentioned on the Xiaomi phone, in this case the name of the hotspot is POCOPHONE F1_pOYJ.

When choosing the hotspot from your old phone, you can now choose what you want to send.

Once you've selected the items you need to send, simply hit Send from your old phone. A pop-up will appear informing you not to turn on Wi-Fi or switch networks while the app is running.

Just like we do for OnePlus phones, we highly recommend leaving both phones alone until the transfer is complete to ensure all data is transferred without incident.

Once the transfer is done, your Xiaomi phone will take some time to migrate the data, and with that, that's it!
