PlayStation 5: Sony unveils new details on SSD and expandable memory

After so many months of rumor, Sony has finally decided to officially reveal new information about its next console. During the official presentation event of PlayStation 5, called “The road to PS5”, the Lead System Architect Mark Cerny, after unveiling the official technical specifications, he talked about the SSD and the possibility of expanding the memory of the platform through the use of external devices.

THESSD of PlayStation 5 will be installed internally in order to completely reset the loading times. The speed of the new console will far exceed that of the current generation, coming to load 2GB of data in a quarter of a second. The SSD will be equipped with a storage space equal to 825GB, a rather strange figure considering the memories currently on the market, as well as the characteristics of the Xbox Series X.

Once you have used all 825GB of storage of the SSD, it will be possible connect an external hard drive. On external HDDs it will be possible to install your own titles, as is currently the case on the current generation of PlayStation. obviously the execution speed will be significantly lower compared to the games saved inside the SSD. It will also be possible connect external SSDs through NVMe SSD Slot, which will certainly make them more performing than what is seen with HDDs, now almost obsolete.
