Avengers: Infinity War is the beginning of the end of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as we know it: we already knew that it would be something striking, and we already know that with Avengers 4 many pieces will be prepared for a new phase, a new space dedicated to new heroes, to some of the old, and many new stories. ATTENTION: THERE ARE SPOILERS IN THIS ARTICLE, WE RECOMMEND READING ONLY AFTER VIEWING THE FILM.
The ending of Avengers: Infinity War it was really a blow to the heart: already the death of Loki, at the beginning of the film, dictates a very dark and serious tone to the film, which in any case does not let itself be carried away only by atmospheres of this type (but we have already talked about it in the review). The real blow to the heart, however, comes when Thanos finally manages to snap his fingers with the Infinity Gauntlet, complete with all the stones, and achieve its goal: to eliminate half of the universal population, so as to allow the survivors to have the right resources to live at ease. So we see many heroes (almost all of the new guard) crumble in front of the survivors, we see a frightened Peter Parker seeking solace in Tony Stark, we see some heroes find themselves completely unprepared for what is going on. But how will all this evolve in the next film, due out in May 2019?
A time block
As we know, before Avengers 4, they will hit theaters Ant-Man and The Wasp e Captain Marvel: in the first, we already know that we will see what happens after Civil War, while Scott and Hope help Hank Pym to discover a secret from the past, probably where his wife has gone, disappeared in the microverse; the second, although it still has a hidden plot, we know that it is set in the 90s. So except for some final scenes, both films that separate Avengers: Infinity War from Avengers 4 (the title will be revealed only after a while from the release of the previous) are set before the events that occurred in the last film. Ergo, we have a full year of zero advancement, which however will lead to sorting out the cards waiting for the big event, part two.
The heroes you don't expect
As we have seen, in the finale most of the heroes crumble into thin air, yet nothing is lost, for four reasons:
- First, most of the heroes of the old guard, and this will allow all of them to close their adventure in the grand finale (given the end of their contracts), taking on the whole world on their shoulders
- Secondly, if Ant-Man he could enter and exit the microverse at will (the quantum realm), since space and time are irrelevant there, he could go back in time to fix some things, or visit alternative realities in search of help.
- In the scene after the credits, before disappearing, Nick Fury calls with his own pager Captain Marvel.
- Finally, when Doctor Strange he analyzes every possible outcome in the future, affirms that only one is good for them. The phrase he repeats when he grants the time gem to Thanos and subsequently crumbles is about the only possible choice. Could this all lead to Strange's long-awaited result?
Also from the images above, we can see some interesting details taken directly from the set of Avengers 4, which show a Captain America in his old uniform, a Tony Stark with blondish hair, white sides, and with a SHIELD uniform, Bruce Banner. (probably in the Hulk version) and Scott Lang, on a location that damnably resembles the New York of the first Avengers. So Avengers 4 could:
- treat of I traveled to the past, where Scott Lang and Tony Stark, now head of SHIELD, will have to fix some things to prevent Thanos from destroying half of creation;
- treat of travel in alternative realities: on the other hand, even in Agents of SHIELD there was talk of Multiverse, and now I don't think it's such a difficult thing for the public to understand;
- see a Captain America return to his old symbol, along with a Tony in charge of SHIELD and the other survivors, who will have to fix things and find a solution.
All is not lost
Many things suggest that something has gone wrong with the plan Thanos: The glove is broken, Thanos himself is injured, and the soul gem could hold a soul capable of tormenting the Mad Titan for a long, long time. Most likely heroes like Spiderman, Star-Lord and many others will come back to life (also because otherwise their two films, due out in the next few years, would not have the protagonists), but it would be nice to see some perish permanently.
Of course, everything would be very difficult if Thanos, snapping those fingers, had canceled the existence of the various heroes, also rewriting reality: this we will only be able to find out in a year (or in the next two films, in some scenes after the credits). . Of course, there are dozens of usable comic ideas, and it seems that this time the MCU you are taking some more risks. We just have to wait: and you, instead, what theories do you have?
