Batman: The Enemy Within Episode 1 Review

Telltale Games always made us dream: The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and Batman these are just a few of the series that millions of players have completed following expertly told, exciting and really well structured stories. Telltale Batman last year it had shone in some respects, and had instead remained overshadowed by its development brethren in others. Yet if there has always been one thing that Batman wore, unlike the other stories that Telltale used for their games, it is the variety of enemies: If you think about it, the Dark Knight has so many enemies that he can fill seasons upon seasons dedicated to his own story. We are now to see the first episode of Batman: The Enemy Within, second season dedicated to the bat man.

Batman: The Enemy Within Episode 1 ReviewWhere were we

The thing that will make you happy right from the start is that you can take everything that happened in the first season and use it as a starting point for this second: choices, causes and consequences will also affect these new episodes, making everything much more personalized to the player. The Batman in question is always the same Bruce Wayne who had to defeat 4 enemies in a short time, and who now finds himself with a new problem: we have already seen the future Joker during the first season, and Catwoman certainly did not leave to not return. In short, the cards to overcome the previous iteration are there. In addition to the characters already seen, consequences related to what the various protagonists have experienced will return: Alfred will have to fight with the trauma of the kidnapping, while Bruce will have to revive the name of the Wayne muddied by Cobblepot.

Never change a winning team

For the rest, the game uses the same mechanisms of the previous chapter, but emphasizing in a marked way when a character will change his opinion, be it positive or negative, towards our masked hero: this dynamic the continuation of the story will vary greatly, seeing as never before in this Batman: The Enemy Within, factions have had such jagged edges.

Telltale Games takes what it learned from the mistakes of the first season, and easily solves everything: this episode will last about 3 hours, will already offer all the dynamics seen in the previous episodes, and will leave you speechless from the first minutes. The DC universe is also teeming with characteristic characters, perhaps seen in Batman but also present in other film productions, and since this first episode (and analyzing the silhouettes of future episodes), if the known characters were many in the first iteration, they were also certain that here at least they will double.

Being Batman

The duality between Bruce and Batman returns, much more pronounced than before, and the choices become even more gray, really leaving a bad taste in your mouth regardless of which one you take. In addition, the tones become even more mature, leaving little to the imagination, especially in some quite bloody scenes.

Batman: The Enemy Within Episode 1 ReviewA new dynamic for Batman-related stories are the purely stylistic but really well-crafted choices of combat. If before you could only choose how to perform the actions being analyzed, this time you can choose dynamically how to proceed based on what happens: hide to the left or right of a box, choose whether to hit the enemy with one object rather than another, decide to act or stay still hidden to plan. In short, the depth of the game has increased, the possibilities (thanks to the choices of the first season) have doubled and you can be sure, this first episode lays a solid foundation (and quite a bit messed up) for a story that, without a shadow of a doubt, has what it takes to overwhelm the first season.
