Deadpool 2 - Review, the chatty mercenary returns to the cinema

Expectations are a big problem: it often happens that sequels are little appreciated by fans not for gross mistakes, but for simple expectations that are not paid off in the minds of each of them. On the other hand, when you pack a movie on a not too high budget and manage to make all lovers of the talkative mercenary, aka Wade Wilson, aka Dead Pool (Ryan Reynolds), then as soon as you have a bigger budget, you find yourself on a boulder to carry on your shoulders. Fortunately, you can rest assured: David Leitch's new film increases the dose of every single feature, shaking the relationship between them a little too much, but bringing home a film worthy of the name it has.

Fuori di testa

The premise is quite simple: a child with destructive power is being hunted by Cable, soldier from the future. Of course Deadpool will find himself in the midst of all this, and will decide not to remain idle, but instead will ask for help from other beings with powers. We will not continue any further because the plot, even if you might think of it as trivial, reserves many surprises: just think that the trailers shown up to now have scenes that are quickly unveiled in the first minutes of the film. In short, Deadpool 2, from this point of view, is a continuous surprise.

Deadpool Extra

As already mentioned, this second chapter increases the dose of every single feature: the humor takes confidence and manages to make every single joke laugh, the fight scenes are well managed, the powers of the other heroes (among all, Domino ) are spectacular to see. Unfortunately, the other side of the coin sees a plot that inserts some drama that not all fans might like, but that doesn't spoil the trend of the film anyway. On the other hand, this Deadpool is not as crazy as that of the comic, and we had already seen this in the first film, with all the love story with Vanessa, friendship with Jack and the particular relationship with Dopinder, trusted taxi driver.

Adult comedy

From splatter scenes to pushed comedy, Deadpool 2 it is definitely a film not suitable for children: for this very reason it allows for scenes capable of making people fold in two with laughter. Where this does not come, the quotationism to the nth degree takes care of it: expect to hear jokes related to famous characters from other films, especially Marvel. This speed given by the comedy mixed with well-made action scenes, however, affects a little on the unfolding of the story: but you can't ask for more than this from a film that, easily, could work even without a plot.

Delusions of protagonism

If you have ever read a Deadpool book, then you will know how the chatty mercenary is always in the middle of every single scene, becoming the protagonist in every fiber of the printed paper. In the film the effect is the same, but alongside it there is an exceptional cast that brings well-made characters to the cinema: Domino (Zazie Beetz) will always be inserted at the right time, and the power of luck, very difficult to visually show in comics, finds ample space (and scene) here; Cable, played by Josh Brolin (formerly Jonah Hex in the homonymous DC film and Thanos in the latest Avengers Infinity War) takes on the role of the soldier who comes from the future in an impressive way, giving him a perfect interpretation.

In short, if you are expecting a sequel in line with the previous film, you will have what you want: delusional opening titles, post-credits scenes bordering on the absurd (there will be two in total, don't run away from the room) and a huge cauldron of violence and comedy. If, on the other hand, you expect to already know how the plot of the film will move, you will certainly have to change your mind. Definitely, Deadpool is back, and he's in better shape than before.
