The communicative process linked to PlayStation 5 it can be defined as quite particular and rarely seen in the videogame industry. Sony has in fact decided to show its new flagship one step at a time, providing information and details with the dropper, unlike the Xbox competitor who has already revealed practically all the details of his new machine: Xbox Series X. However, just before the Inside Xbox programmed by the Redmond house, the new controller designed for PlayStation 5 has been officially unveiled through PlayStation Blog. This has been particularly detailed and many of the questions relating to the same have fortunately been clarified by the Japanese company: let's see together all the information currently in our possession on the brand new Dualense starting from the comment posted by Sony itself:
"DualSense marks a radical departure from our previous controllers and perfectly represents the generational leap we intend to take with PS5."
Shape
The DualSense has a slightly different external body configuration than seen with the DualShock 4. The differences were evident in the in-depth comparison within the following article. We are talking mainly about two grip for wider and longer grip, a decidedly more extended and raised touch-pad, as well as a somewhat more rounded contour shape. According to what has been stated, this could make the gaming pad in the hand more pleasant thanks to the better ergonomics of the device.
The latter factor is probably inspired by the classic designs of Xbox-branded controllers, but the structure of the peripheral has several further innovations also in form. The last factor of the body, but certainly not least, is the weight of the controller. We do not have official data on the latter yet but it seems that it will be significantly lower than the DualShock 4, which is sure to delight countless users.
Design
The new external design of DualSense will be a revolution compared to what has already been seen with previous PlayStation controllers
The colors of the DualSense certainly point to futuristic themes, as could also be done by the still unknown design of the PlayStation 5. Although there is still no official confirmation about it, there are many rumors according to which the controller could remember or represent the colors of the new console. We are talking about two parts, one white and one black, the second of which is almost totally identical to the lower portion of the DualShock 4. The PlayStation keys and the darts appear to have remained identical, albeit colored white and almost transparent inside. We also find an additional button to block the audio input of the microphone, which we will deepen later, and two larger backbones for the player's comfort. The lines that surround the central structure have been very softened, making the device much more aesthetically pleasing, as can also be done by the insertion of the new LEDs.
The classic modifiable colors - and usable on consoles to recognize your controller when you use different ones - are now positioned on the central part of the device, just below the most raised touch-pad for the occasion. In the photo the central color is blue, but it seems that this will vary in the occasions just described, taking the place of the light placed between the backbones of the DualShock 4.
Features of DualSense
It seems that the key word for the development of the DualSense was “immersion”, this is what has recently emerged from the company's report. In addition to ensuring better comfort in the hours of gaming spent on the new console, the controller aims to provide greater immersion to anyone who approaches its use, allowing them to fully enter into the mechanics of the experiences with which they will have to deal. The first of the features designed to pursue this goal is represented by triggers with adaptive resistance, which will allow DualSense to partially revolutionize the sensations perceived by gamers. We are talking about mechanisms capable of providing different levels of hardness to the pressure, which will try to reproduce the real sensation experienced in-game by our alter ego. Whether it is accelerators with racing games, or with the guns of shooters it is of little importance, it is actually a very promising idea that we hope will be exploited to the fullest in a large amount of video games.
Adaptive triggers could radically change the immersion within the video game
The innovations posed for the device were also other, such as the anchor mysterious revolution related to the Share button. This has officially changed its name to Create, and thanks to the new interactions allowed by PlayStation 5 it will guarantee content creators additional opportunities that the Japanese house has not yet specified, but which we hope will soon be officially cleared. While not perfect for this purpose given its small size, we already know that the DualSense will include a natively integrated microphone which can be deactivated through the special button added. A real godsend for communications with friends through parties and for in-game voice chats, increasingly widespread and often not accessible due to some user limitations.
To close the circle of novelties we find one battery that according to what has been declared will be significantly more performing compared to the one present in the DualShock 4. It is said that this can last for much longer, and lose efficiency over much longer periods, contrary to what has been found by many users with the one integrated in the DualShock 4. In this way the controller will be more exploited in its wireless mode, and we do not yet know if PlayStation 5 will integrate an alternative charging system compared to the simple USB cable to which the last generations have now accustomed us.
One last alleged pearl seems to be contained also in this case inside the body: let's talk about the new Vibration Feedback. There is talk of a new type of sensitivity that will make the impact with the controller clearly different based on the various situations with which you will have to deal in-game. We conclude by saying that the price of the DualSense has not yet been formalized, but it could be announced together with the full reveal of PlayStation 5. We would also like to clarify that not even one has been confirmed yet compatibility with PlayStation 4 Back Button Attachment, which is however very likely given the lower part of the controller remained almost unchanged compared to the last generation.
