Godfall - Preview, the next-gen Counterplay Games is coming

Since its very first announcement, Godfall it has certainly been able to attract the attention of many players, who will be ready to get their hands on it right at the arrival of the new generation of consoles. The game will be available starting November 12, the date on which PlayStation 5 it will be released in America; in the meantime we Europeans will be able to put our hands on the PC version, but for that console we will necessarily have to wait until November 19th. That said, the guys at Counterplay Games have created what is in effect a GaaS (Game as a Service) with strong melee action components. The playful structure is one that makes strength on the loot or on the personalization, in terms of aesthetics and equipment, of the character. Godfall stands as one of the forerunners of the next generation, aiming at a large audience to showcase the first improvements that upcoming consoles will have to offer. Although at first glance the product may seem somewhat derivative, the very long gameplay available on YouTube showed a game with enormous potential. Although for more relevant judgments we will inevitably have to wait for the review phase, for now we can say that Godfall starts on the right foot.

Everything has a beginning

As for the plot, its premises are somewhat weak and not very original, but they are always an excellent excuse to engage with the playful nature of the product. The cinematic trailer released more information on the adventure, which makes it clear how an apocalyptic scenario is the backdrop to a battle for the kingdom between two brothers. Although we don't know how the usurped king can regain lost power, we are convinced that the play structure of the product will help players in this new ascent. The world in which everything is set is called Aperion, it is divided by four kingdoms divided by elements: Fire, Water, Earth and Spirit. These lands are now steeped in darkness, teeming with evil creatures and nothing and no one will be able to stop this atrocious fate.

The world of Aperion for us is magnetic, the artistic sector is really excellent and we can't wait to see what surprises Godfall will have in hand for us. However, the narrative is only a pretext since the real focus of the experience will be the knife-edge clashes, the backbone that will push the players to increase their strength to each object obtained from the various enemies. The developer itself, the Counterplay Games, has defined the game as a looter-slasher. the team has focused heavily on gameplay, to give a number of uncommon combos, so as to let the user taste the power of different combinations. All of this will be driven by an inevitable loot system, which will give you ever better rewards to increase your character's power.

The backbone of Godfall

Godfall, as previously mentioned, will have a melee combat system that winks a lot at games like God of War, albeit proposing its own identity. There will be different styles of weapons such as katanas, hammers, heavy swords, double blades and so on, so that all players in one way or another can find their ideal weapon. However, according to the developers, players will be encouraged to change their dangerous blade several times, so as to offer a different experience each time. In-game there will naturally be a system of dodging, parrying and counterattacks, and already from the first trailers you can clearly see how you will need to have a minimum of technique to better master the controls. With enemies in close contact, a good reactivity will be essential to get the better of it, and the developers have staked everything on a type of clashes devoted to attack.

All this speed must not overshadow the fact that the title will still be challenging; the team's goal is not to underestimate the various clashes, always putting the user on the alert. Staying focused will be an important prerogative if you want to survive in Godfall. Just think of the boss fights, which apparently will be more numerous than expected: in these cases you will be forced to combine power and tactics, since it will also be very important to learn the movements of the various enemies. Combining all this in the spectacularity that the title seeks will be quite a difficult task, but in the current state of affairs it seems that the mission has been successful. In Godfall you can hit both with the classic heavy and light attacks, and with much more powerful special moves. Each weapon will have its own particularity, it will be up to you to decide which one to use and at what time.

With the arrival of the new generation, In short, Godfall is undoubtedly a title not to be underestimated. Potentially we are faced with a well-articulated and structured GaaS, it will be necessary to see how it will hold its own in the long term. This kind of products, if not adequately supported over time, risk losing interest, which the Counterplay Games title absolutely does not deserve. We know that for the final judgment of the work we will have to wait for the review phase, but we strongly believe that the work will be able to amaze and bring new users to the genre.
