Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist (1993)

Created by Al Lowe (Leisure Suit Larry) e Josh Mandel (Callahan Crosstime Saloon) and published by Sierra On-Line in 1993, Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist is an adventure game published exclusively on PC and Mac, featuring hand-drawn graphics (256 colors) powered by the SCI 1.1 graphics engine. The title was published both on floppy-disk and on CD-ROM and was among the first “Point & Click” graphic adventures in history. The protagonist of the events narrated, a pharmacist from 1880 named Freddy, operating in the city of Coarsegold in California (which in 1993 housed the headquarters of Sierra). Freddy decides to give himself to the sale of drugs after a shooting with a particular outcome, which we will certainly not reveal to you! By Al Lowe's own admission, the title was inspired by Blazing Saddles, a satirical reinterpretation of the story of the Wild West directed by Mel Brooks in 1974.

The Last Bounty Hunter (1994)

Still a live-action video game published by American Laser Games. Like all the games produced by this development house (now disappeared), it is a fun shooter based on interactive scenes shot in real life. On this occasion, the reprise was performed in the Old Tucson Studios in Tucson, Arizona (USA). In 2009 on Wii, in 2013 on PlayStation 3, the title was revived in these two latest incarnations in the “Six Gun Select” collection along with Global VR's Fast Draw Showdown.

Published in 1994 by American Laser Games e Digital Leisure in a coin-op version, it was re-released in the “Six Gun Select” collection along with The Last Bounty Hunter, as you have just read. The classic Wild West shootings were also revived in the PC version, with guaranteed support for mouse and gun. On PlayStation 3 the title supports PlayStation Move.

In 1994 the development house Natsume released for Super Nintendo Entertainment System (for friends, SNES), Wild guns, third-person shooter in a "fantasy-western" setting. The player could choose to play a protagonist between the two proposed (Clint and Annie) and face the endless shootings set in Carson City. The title featured, in total, 6 levels, between desolate canyons and dusty gold mines. The name given to the male lead, Clint, is a clear homage to the legendary Clint Eastwood.

Dust: A Tale of the Wired West (1995)

Developed by Cyberflix in 1995, Dust: A Tale of the Wired West is a graphic adventure for PC in three-dimensional graphics in which players take on the role of The Stranger ("The Stranger"), and set in the western part of the desert of New Mexico in 1882. In addition to the main adventure to complete, players could entertain themselves between games of poker and blackjack. All the characters encountered in this Point & Click adventure are represented by photographs of professional actors animated in sync with the lines of text of the dialogues. In 1995 the title was awarded as "Best Multimedia Game" by Macworld magazine. Despite the actual quality of the product, the game sold just 30.000 units (a result achieved, among other things, only in 1999, four years after its launch).
