Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition - Review of the PC version

Embracing new horizons over the past few months Sony started looking at the PC market with more interest. An ecosystem diametrically opposite to the world of its consoles, which however offers greater possibilities for players, and a completely new slice of public, which in many cases ends up not experiencing the exclusive adventures produced by SIE Worldwide Studios. One of these, Guerrilla GAMES, made the Tenth Engine, which has already been cleared on PC thanks to the arrival of the porting of Death stranding. Following the debut of the latest work by Hideo Kojima on PC, we find the new IP patented by Guerrilla GAMES, which in 2017 was able to upset the open world market in the PlayStation world. Let's talk about Horizon Zero Dawn, a title that will finally be available on Steam and on the Epic Games Store starting from 7 August, through the Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition.Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition - Review of the PC version

An edition that obviously offers new features, given the possibilities offered by the system on which the brand is ready to land, and which at the same time includes all the updates of the title, including the enormous expansion The Frozen Wilds. We, we had the opportunity to try Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition in preview, and we are ready to talk to you about the quality of the port and its criticalities. Follow us in the next lines to find out more about it!

Good old Horizon Zero Dawn

The adventure of Aloy, despite having been over 3 years, it remains unchanged and equally fascinating. A flamboyant and inviting post-apocalyptic world, which nevertheless hides a series of not indifferent pitfalls and dangers. Real machines dominate the planet, and form their own ecosystem, dangerous for our race, or rather for those few humans who are left, who live a lifestyle halfway between the tribal and the futuristic. But what happened to Earth, and where did these robotic creatures come from? Answering these questions is no easy task, but the protagonist Aloy will try to learn more details together with the player, through an undoubtedly surprising campaign, which in its many hours will be able to capture the user and dissect many details about the aforementioned universe, which is further expanded by the excellent expansion present. Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition is the same game seen on PlayStation 4, with more possibilities guaranteed by the PC market

The PC version does not offer content additions compared to what was seen on PlayStation 4, and it is therefore clear that those who have already experienced the adventure will find themselves in front of the same game. However, where the PS4 system managed to deliver a graphically miraculous yet closed game, the PC world offers the possibility of living a personalized experience based on user preferences. Add to the package full support for Ultra Wide monitors, and in-depth graphics settings at the right point, which allow you to accurately modify some gameplay factors - such as sensitivity - and various details on the screen. On the graphic side, therefore, the work obviously appears in a renewed state compared to the past, but it's up to users to gut the settings in order to choose a smoother image thanks to the unlocked frames, or a better graphic impact.

The heart of the game

On the technical side, the port unfortunately has some shortcomings. Starting from the control system, you immediately realize how the feeling of movement is not particularly satisfactory for the first few hours - if you use the mouse and keyboard - while it is obviously the same for the experience with the controller. In this case, the possibility is obviously added to choose the peripheral you prefer and to customize it, given the greater compatibility of the PC world compared to PlayStation 4. However, aiming with mouse and keyboard positively revolutionizes the play system, making the shooting already excellent on consoles able to shine with a new light of its own. The work requires a good precision in the shots, necessary for some game mechanics related to the dangerous machines, and the aforementioned peripherals are perfectly suited to Aloy's adventure.

The optimization of the work and the graphic rendering are not exactly at the top, and it is clear that it would have been possible to do better

Optimization is, in some ways, turn up your nose, since this is certainly not disastrous, but it is clear that a more painstaking work would have been possible. After a tedious initial load, which fortunately is not repeated during the game, you realize how reaching 60 frames is not easy, especially if you don't have a sufficiently advanced machine. The graphics sector is slightly less impactful than what was seen in 2017, but in the end time passes and technology advances.
