To take screenshots on MacBook, you can take advantage of Screenshot, the default macOS tool for taking screenshots and what's happening on the Mac desktop. It's very easy to use and comes with a lot of interesting options.

To be able to use it, access the Launchpadby selecting the relevant icon (Quella with il space rocket) that you find on Dock bar, open the folder Other attached to it and click on theScreenshot icon (Quella with the macOS window and the camera). Alternatively, you can call up the application by simply pressing cmd + shift + 5 on the keyboard.

At this point, at the bottom of the desktop, you should see the utility toolbar. On the left side of the same you will find the buttons Capture the entire screen, Capture the selected window e Capture the selection which allow, respectively, to take a screenshot of the entire screen, of a selected window or of a portion of the desktop of your choice.

Although this does not interest you at the moment, I also inform you, still on the toolbar, in the far right part, there are also the buttons Record the entire screen e Record your selection, which allow you to record a video of the entire screen or just a portion of it.

Also on the right side of the Screenshot toolbar you will also find the button options, which allows you to choose, through the appropriate menu that opens, whether to show the mouse pointer in the resulting image and whether to make the floating thumbnail visible after capture, to set a timer to delay screen capture and select the location to save the screenshot.

That said, to proceed with capturing the screen, choose the mode you prefer among those available, select, if necessary, the area of the screen of your interest or the window, and click on the button Acquire. Once captured, confirming the success of the operation, you will hear the sound of a camera shutter.

If, on the other hand, you have not opened the screenshot captured using the relative preview image and you still want to make changes to it, you can do so by double-clicking on the relative file icon present in the location of your choice for the output and then using the tools and functions offered by Preview, the default image and PDF file viewer of macOS, which also allows you to insert texts and drawings, rotate images, etc.

Keep in mind that the indications I have just given you are valid for the macOS versions equal to or greater than 10.14 (Mojave). On the previous versionsHowever, a less versatile variant of Screenshot is available, which does not allow you to adjust preferences related to screen capture and does not even offer the possibility of recording the screen.
