The docuserie, available starting November 13 exclusively on Disney +, consists in total of 4 episodes whose first 2 are the subject of this preview. Ready to find out where the inspiration for old and new Pixar projects comes from?

Inside Pixar: the creative professions

Each episode of Inside Pixar is dedicated to a different profession and, therefore, has a different Pixar employee as the protagonist. In the first episode the headlights are turned up Deanna Marseillaise, second generation Italian character art director with an eccentric style. Between a desk full of colors, easels and walls covered with pencil sketches, Deanna Marsigliese explains how to harness inspiration, which defines an element that one must be willing to research, because it is everywhere, also in the vintage clothes that she wears and that help her with the costume design of her characters: maybe Edna Mode from the Incredibles is more than a fictional character! The ideas to create the characters, which often emerge after intense brainstorming sessions with the story artists, must then be modeled through drawing, but also with the help of sculpture and collage. The character art director also talks about her connection with Italy and the work on the characters of Luca, the Pixar film set in our peninsula directed by Enrico Casarosa. This trip took her in Liguria, to the (re) discovery of the habits, customs and gestures of the Italians.

The second episode, however, sees as the protagonist Kemp Powers, co-writer and co-director of Soul, out this Christmas on Disney +. If for Deanna Marsigliese the challenge is to make the movement of even the most bizarre character realistic, for Kemp Powers the main concern is to write a plot and the characters that result authentic for the public. In this regard, the writer reveals how Soul is a very project staff for him, inspired by his love for jazz and the need to tell his life experience as an African American. What better way to tell the black community than through his own spazi? Kemp Powers points out the importance of observation, to be subsequently translated into words and emotions, telling how a simple visit to the barber gave him an avalanche of ideas for Soul.

Inside Pixar - Preview, Pixar creatives tell their storiesHow magic is born

Inside Pixar is much more than a simple list of anecdotes or previews about Pixar titles: it is a real one dive into the modus operandi of one of the most popular production houses in the world. What emerges from the professionals behind the productions is a great one attention to detail and a certain one predisposition to overcome obstacles and the challenges. After all, even the most seasoned screenwriters and character artists fear the blank page, but they need to be productive and creative even when they're not in the mood.

On a technical level, Inside Pixar is a docuseries told in first person by the protagonists of every single episode, with frequent fixed camera shots to underline the confidential characters, winking at the reality show direction. With one storytelling pleasant and light and interesting content, Inside Pixar is a short but intense experience. There duration of Inside Pixar is the cross and the delight of the docuseries: the episodes, lasting about 10 minutes each, are easy to use thanks to the short duration; however, if you're a Pixar fan, these production pills won't be enough, and you will want more, and more.
