Your iPhone shuts down by itself, before the actual battery percentage reaches, say, five percent… battery life seems to have gotten worse over time. When you put your smartphone on charge, and you see that the battery is charging much faster than it used to, this is a real problem.
In a while we are going to see three solutions, which will help you to correct the errors that cause your iPhone to shut down for no apparent reason, let's get started.
1. Check the battery status
Battery Health provides two key pieces of information: your battery's maximum charge capacity and how battery power affects your phone's performance. The Battery Health section will also tell you if your battery needs to be replaced.
To view the battery status of your phone, tap Settings > Battery > State of the battery. If the maximum capacity is very low, it could be a sign of a problem with the battery. If you see anything other than “Peak Performance Capability”, it could be a sign that the battery has problems.
2. Calibrate the iPhone battery
The most common solution is to calibrate your iPhone's battery. This is easy enough. Just use your iPhone until it shuts down completely, draining the battery as completely as possible.
You can do this by turning up the brightness and watching some video streaming on YouTube or iTunes over Wi-Fi or by having it downloaded with some challenging game. So wait for a minute or two after the iPhone shuts down.
Connect the iPhone to the charger and leave it charging until it has reached 100 percent. Wait for another 60 to 90 minutes before unplugging, just to make sure the device is fully charged.
The iPhone battery should now be fully calibrated and provide more accurate readings. You can repeat the process to further increase accuracy.
3. Restore your iPhone (without a backup)
Before replacing any type of hardware, usually the battery in this case, it is recommended that you check the software on your iPhone. The easiest way to check if any of your settings, apps, or part of the operating system is interfering with battery life is to completely reset your iPhone.
- Open the "Settings", then go to "General" and finally "Reset".
- Now, click on the “Erase all content and settings” button.
- Then follow the on-screen information to set up your iPhone as a new device instead of restoring via backup.
- This process will give you the opportunity to test the iPhone as a clean slate, so to speak.
- If the battery problem went away, it was just a software problem. If, on the other hand, the problem has reoccurred, go on with the reading.
4. When the iPhone shuts down by itself update iOS
In some cases where the iPhone shuts down randomly, the problem is in the operating system. If the hard reset didn't work and you're running an iOS version earlier than 11.2, you should upgrade to the latest OS version.
5. Battery replacement
Finally, there is always the possibility of a hardware failure. Most of the time this is simply due to the fact that the iPhone battery life has reached its end. This means that Apple, or an authorized technician will need to replace the battery in the device.
