Through his official Instagram profile, the actor Johnny Depp claimed to have been discharged from Warner Bros. following Judge Nicol's sentence relating to a libel complaint by the Hollywood star against the Sun (who had called him "wife thug"). The actor will not be Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3.
These are the words of Depp, published on Instagram:
In light of recent events, I would like to make the following statement. First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their support and loyalty. I am moved and touched by your many messages of love and concern, especially those that arrived in the last days. Second, I would like to let you know that I was asked by Warner Bros. to give up my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected this decision and agreed with it. This surreal ruling by the court in the UK will not change my struggle to tell the truth and I can confirm that I intend to appeal. My intentions remain steadfast and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined from this moment.
Warner Bros., for its part, has communicated to the Variety portal that the role that Johnny Depp would have occupied in Fantastic Beasts 3 (Grindelwald), will be entrusted to another actor, not yet announced. The film will therefore be delayed and will be launched insummer of 2022.
Fantastic Beasts 3 is expected to be set between 1927 and 1945, thus embracing a time span of about 18 years.
