Kingdom Hearts III - expectations and hopes ahead of E3 2018

Kingdom Hearts III is definitely one of the most anticipated games of the year. Precisely for this reason the attention on the videogame is very high, and if we also think about the material shown over time we can perfectly understand the reason for all the hype surrounding the production. Despite this there are elements that, certainly, have not yet been shown, therefore it seems logical to think that Square Enix is holding some cards still to be played. In this editorial, in fact, I will list the features that, from the information released so far, I hope will be implemented in the game.

City lives

One of the elements always much discussed in Kingdom Hearts it is certainly the static nature of the cities. Let's explain better: in the saga in general you will always find yourself, whether you like it or not, shooting in an inhabited center. It is difficult to think that large locations such as Twilight Town or La Città di Mezzo are always inhabited by the same characters. Seeing more liveliness in inhabited centers would be a not indifferent touch of style, also because with current technologies the excuse of the hartless presence no longer holds. From what emerged in the trailers, you can clearly see the will of the software house to please the players in creating a more interactive environment: in fact you can observe how the elements present on the scenario react to various stimuli, such as the wind on the grass or the fall of a robot. on a toy shelf. However, I personally find that it is still not enough, even if from the photos that emerged secretly the situation seems to be under control.

More worlds

Yes, it is taken for granted as a request, but a greater number of worlds also means greater longevity. Increasing the locations also means meeting new friends and forging ties that are different from the usual ones. The only environments that are already known and that will surely be present in Kingdom Hearts III are Mount Olympus, Twilight Town and the Yen Sid tower. Toy Story, Monster & Co. and Big Hero 6 are welcome, but there are still plenty of movies to take inspiration from. Oceania could be relevant to the cause, as well as Rebel, the possibility of adding something more is there, and after all this time it would also be mandatory to do so.

Secret bosses

Surely the secret bosses have never been the spearhead of Kingdom Hearts, even if in their small way they contributed to enrich the game with interesting content. If you remember, in fact, in the first Kingdom Hearts, we find the beauty of four secret bosses, only to decrease drastically over the years. The Final Mix versions have brought this formula back into vogue, but now it's time to say enough to the usual enemies like the members of Organization XIII and come up with something new. There are a lot of Disney villains that have not been used, it would be nice to be able to face them.

Enrich the general formula and especially the end game

This paragraph is inevitably linked to what was said previously. As well as the bosses, some new introductions wouldn't be bad either. As is well known, the end game is now very important for a video game, while historically in Kingdom Hearts he was rather poor. Sure you could find materials, craft items, and win tournaments on Mount Olympus, but none of this was really challenging. Precisely for this reason it would be nice to see a system of secondary missions, which would also be new for the series, so as to give a valid reason to continue playing even at the end of the main adventure. Probably several years will pass before reviewing a new episode, for this reason it is important to keep the attention alive with an important amount of activity and not only with mini-games for their own sake.

The return of mergers

The keyblades with three transformations are undoubtedly fascinating and also give a touch of style that should not be underestimated because they are the result of an exorbitant creative commitment. Despite this however, kept in the hearts of all fans, there is a little place dedicated to the mergers seen in Kingdom Hearts II. In addition to giving a greater frenzy to the gameplay, they gave that pinch of variation that the clashes lacked, as well as an incredible sense of power. Unlocking the final fusion and leveling them all to the maximum was an almost moral obligation, finding them in the third chapter of the saga would be an unimaginable joy.

Really useful summons

Summons were integral parts of Kingdom Hearts gameplay. Despite this, however, their use was rather superfluous, especially in the second chapter since they totally consumed the MP bar, and to say it all the damage inflicted was not even that great. Square Enix has already shown the Attraction Flows in the Kingdom Hearts III movies, or those evocations such as cups or the vessel that take inspiration directly from the rides of the Disney theme park. Although they are an exciting sight, I would like to be able to exploit them more over the course of the story.

Real Gummiship battles

The Gummiship is to be considered a real minigame within Kingdom Hearts. Unfortunately the formula for how this element was inserted is quite questionable, as it is simply based on killing Hartless ships like there is no tomorrow. Repetitive and boring in the past, I hope that in this new chapter the function linked to Gummiship will be more dynamic and fun, which allows the user to have a real control of the ship and, perhaps, to be able to freely turn in space in search of specific materials. Rather than changing the Gummiship, in fact, I would like to have only one to upgrade as the adventure progresses.

Perspective Riku

We are well aware that the latest rumors released on Kingdom Hearts III confirm that in the game three characters will control themselves. In the prologue, in fact, it seems that we will play the role of a young Eraqus, while the real adventure will be divided between the perspective of Sora and Riku. Although it is complex to develop, I like the idea that there can be a division of roles. In this sense, however, we are talking about rumors, nothing confirmed of course. But if it were true it would be interesting to see the unfolding of the plot.

The closing of a circle

The plot created by Nomura, as is known to all fans, proved to be articulate and full of facets. However, the development house managed to create links between the various chapters that, gradually, released the blanket of mystery that surrounded the main story. The Game Director has explained several times that this it won't be the end of Kingdom Hearts, but only the Xheanort saga will end. Precisely for this reason the desire would be to see all pending issues closed, avoiding further narrative holes or hints to future chapters.

This was my personal expectations on Kingdom Hearts III. Obviously it is obvious to tell you that what is listed are only desires based on hopes and rumors, so nothing official. If you are looking for some more concrete information on the game, we refer you to the analysis of the latest trailer. We remind you, however, that E3 2018 is approaching, so it cannot be excluded that a new video will be released from which to draw interesting details.
