Nioh 2: Darkness in the Capital - Second DLC review

The adventure that Koei Tecmo e Team Ninja they have been able to offer us this year is decidedly level: after a great base title and a more than satisfactory first DLC, we are now preparing to return to feudal Japan to fight dozens and dozens of Yokai. Nioh 2: Darkness in the Capital clearly arises after the previous episode, but this time Hide and his loyal spirits will travel even further back in time. Just like The Disciple of Tengu, this new add-on offers some missions to play, including main and secondary, but also a couple of other tasty innovations, including a brand new class of weapons.

Further back

Traveling even further into the past, this time our protagonist will find himself catapulted into 976, in what was the current capital of the Heian period (no less than today's Kyoto). The bloody fight against the King of the Yokai continues, this time with the sacred sword in the hands of the demon hunter Minamoto no Yorimitsu (which, however, in this title was proposed in a female version).

As we have been accustomed to, even in Darkness in the Capital there will be several historical characters who really existed, as well as the expert magician Abe no Seimei. The proposed contents guarantee about 5 hours of gameplay, with a total of 10 possible, but of which only 3 are the main ones. On the narrative level, the structure remains the same to which we have been accustomed until now, and there are not many novelties in this sense; with a very short first mission, and with the narrative itself that, despite being full of splendid challenges, never really tends to take off, we can say that we are faced with a product that performs its task without infamy and without praise. The recommended level to start from is 130, and so if you have already played the last DLC starting from the recommended level for this, you will already be abundantly able to face the new challenges.

Like a wolf

Clearly the most succulent part of this additional content are all the innovations introduced, such as the new equipment, the new Yokai to be killed, but above all the very fomentant boss fights and the new class of weapons, incredibly fun to use. THE Tekkō they are gloves with claws, which feature incredibly fast and deadly combos. It is a very versatile weapon, which can easily complete a build combined with a blade more devoted to damage with a single shot (notoriously less quick to use).

Nioh 2: Darkness in the Capital - Second DLC reviewThe fights with the new enemies they will not take too long to understand, but as expected they can be extremely lethal with every false step taken. The new demons that we will face are obviously taken with both hands by the Japanese culture, but not only. The first of these to welcome us will be a Oboroguruma, a chariot-shaped Yokai with a frightening demonic head, which can devour the protagonist in a few moments. They will clearly not be the only ones we will encounter, and all of them will allow us to experiment with new strategies in battle. Even the boss fight proposals manage to settle on satisfying levels, with even those of the secondary missions that can give you many headaches. Of course, everything will also depend on the level of your character.

Never enough

Even if the news that we have listed so far are the same as the first DLC in terms of types, Nioh 2: Darkness in the Capital plays another ace in the hole, especially dedicated to gamers looking for increasingly extreme challenges and increasingly greedy booties: we are talking about the Stone of Contrition. This mechanic is very particular, and is activated by giving an accessory of our choice to get the stone in exchange: if we have a Stone of Contrition, the attack power and health of our enemies will increase, however, the likelihood of a equipment of Divine rarity or higher when these enemies are defeated. It does not end there, because continuing to defeat enemies will load a particular value in the stone, called "Repentance", that the higher it is, the more it will ensure that the accessory pledged is strengthened when we claim it with a rite of rest. Certainly a more than interesting novelty that in a certain sense changes the cards on the table in certain situations.
