Outriders - Preview of a dynamic cooperative shooter

Often and gladly we glorify our favorite titles, ignoring who is behind the making of them. So speak of the Polish boys of People Can Fly it may be poor for some, less so for others. They are in fact the minds behind the immortal Painkiller or the underrated Bulletstorm. Yes, then there was the parenthesis of exclusivity with Epic which seems to have given experience as good as it is bad, but now the Polish studio seems to be back in strength and in great shape with a whole new title which will embrace the period of transit between old and new generation, that is Outriders. The title immediately presents itself in its nature: a cooperative third person shooter, with up to three players.

For those who have already tried it, the formula does not seem different from titles such as Remnant - From the Ashes; in fact the GDR component will be strongly marked. Primary fuel to start this title is the narration, with mankind in search of a new home among many, a thousand stars and planets in the universe. Once an apparently hospitable place has been found, a certain catastrophic event will occur that will undermine that peace. Our character will therefore awaken from a cryogenic sleep decades after this disaster. The new world has now become hostile and together with mysterious supernatural powers, we should survive through the classic loot obtained from enemies or main missions, made of makeshift armor and deadly weapons.

Same formula, high hopes

Removed a classic third-person shooter system together with an already proven roofing system (People Can Fly has worked directly and in support of brands such as Gears of War), in Outriders we will have four distinct classes through which to shape our optimal build. Not all have been revealed yet, which is why it is legitimate to expect substantial changes in the programming phase, but just think that they will be classes that will respect the standard parameters of the RPGs, among those tending to support thanks to elemental powers flanked by others designed to have large and powerful defense and / or attack tanks.

Played in a cooperative, therefore, it will be necessary to take into account the skills in possession in order to optimize your team in view of missions, particular assaults or raids, game proposals that seem in line with the complete package that will arrive at the end of the year. In short, in addition to the aforementioned Remnant, Outriders seems strongly addressed to that slice of players who already populate Destiny or The Division servers, an experience that in part, however, totally deviates from this formula, to create a very different product with its own heart; what is certain is that after the failure of Anthem, there is some fear. The guys from People Can Fly, however, ensure attention to detail, also with regard to rewards and loot, which will not present a Diablo-style management: therefore yes present, but not excessively.

The same game world will have a degree of difficulty, exactly like the world band of The Division; the higher the score of our hero or our team, the greater the difficulty of the game world. Last, but not least, the different skill trees for each character which appear quite rich, giving the possibility to create optimal build prototypes, but not necessarily vast enough to create strong customizations. In short, some branches will be the same, regardless of the player's class, a factor that will therefore allow us to have small differences from other users, but nothing shocking. Distributed by Square Enix - who seems to believe a lot in the project -, Outriders has all the credentials to be pleased by a large group of enthusiasts. In this case the bet is high, the risk of failing too, but a game formula optimized at its best and a support present in the endgame can keep alive a notable alternative to the genre.
