PlayStation 5: the games we want remastered

For several years now, the creation of remastered versions of more or less relevant video games has undoubtedly become a fashion from which no software house has been able to resist. When he came out PlayStation 3, back in 2007 (in Japan and the United States it came out in 2006), the impossibility of being able to play the titles for PS2 e PS1 on the new console - except for the very first 60GB FAT version - meant that remastered editions were born, improved in terms of content, polygons and sometimes even in the gameplay, under a new graphic that was that of high definition. Moreover, given the years passed between the three generations of consoles, it was also a way to introduce to the "new generation" titles that had marked the history of gaming on the old and dear PS1 and PS2, considered among the best machines ever. This "fashion", given the very low outlay by the software houses, has meant that it increasingly expanded to more titles in a capillary way, not only for the sake of re-proposing a work with improvements, but simply to make "cash ”In the simplest and fastest way possible, often leveraging the nostalgia factor.

To date, in fact, we have numerous versions of games re-proposed in all sauces. God of War, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Crash, Spyro, Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear Solid and many others are clear examples of what is written. The question that arises spontaneously therefore can only be the following: which remastered versions will we see on the new PlayStation 5? To answer this question we would need to have the crystal ball which unfortunately we do not have. We therefore decided to ask ourselves a second question: what games would we like to see remastered on the new Sony console? To this question we have chosen to leverage (as we said before) both on the nostalgia factor but also by choosing games that could actually come out or should have a second chance to be rediscovered by old-time players and beyond. Although the new console will be backwards compatible with the current PS4, which is why it would make less sense to re-propose titles that are already playable in themselves, here are the chosen games that we would like to see on the new PlayStation 5 in the form of remastered.

Dino crisis

If we go to see among the thousands of noteworthy titles released on PS1 that have not received a remastered, we can only mention Dino crisis, the shooter / horror made by Capcom released in 1999 (and later also arrived on Sega Dreamcast and PC). We are talking about a saga consisting of 3 main chapters plus two spin-offs which, also given the strong references to works such as Jurassic Park and Resident Evil, has been able to charm millions of players. Rumors circulating on the net speak of a Capcom intending to release a remastered version of the title (or of the saga) in the near future. Aware of the excellent work done with Resident Evil 2 Remake and the great reception received both in terms of sales and criticism, we believe that the question is not entirely crazy. Finding ourselves among the dinosaurs again couldn't be more frighteningly beautiful than this.

Legacy of Kain

Another excellent saga of which practically all of us have wondered why it has never been revived in a better graphic format is precisely that of Legacy of Kain. Composed of 5 titles, the first of which was released in 1997 on PS1, the game tells the story of two vampires, Kain and Raziel in the land of Nosgoth. The second title of the saga, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, is considered by many to be the best of all and therefore also the most requested to play. Although it has been repurposed on PS3, PSP e PSVita, the title has never enjoyed a real remastered but simply an "upload" as it was in the original version. Square Enix, which currently holds the rights given the acquisition of Eidos, had registered in 2013 a domain called warfornosgoth.com which made many users believe a possible re-release if not a new game of the saga. Unfortunately, however, at the moment everything is silent, but since even Square has found in the remastered a goose that lays golden eggs (just think of all the Final Fantasy re-proposed) the idea of returning to play with the two vampires Kain and Raziel tempts us a lot .

Horizon Zero Dawn

Although the title is in effect a game of the current generation, complete with a version GOTY containing the expansion “Frozen Wilds”, the possible release of a second chapter for the new one PlayStation 5 (there are even those who say a Horizon 2 in the console launch line-up) would pave the way for a possible remastered of the first. Indeed, we believe that a version of the new chapter containing the first adventure of Aloy inside, it could definitely start the sales of the new console with a bang, giving the opportunity to recover a highly superfine title while releasing a new adventure full of charm.

Syphon Filter

Let's go back in time and do it in style. Once, we always talk about PlayStation 1, there were not only Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell to contend for the throne as the best action / stealth, but there was also a third IP that managed to break into the hearts of many, like myself. Although Siphon Filter is more of an action game than an espionage phase, comparisons with the other works mentioned above are wasted. The saga, also composed of numerous chapters, had a somewhat slow start due to the rival Snake who made a lot of gamers, all until the saga was able to distinguish itself from the counterpart reaching excellent numbers both at the level of sales than of criticism. The series has unfortunately gradually gone missing although some last works for PSP (As Logan's Shadow) have been well received. A remastered version of all or simply the original trilogy would be really well received even in anticipation of a possible return of the saga.

Max Payne

Famous name more than anyone else is the famous Max Payne, the New York police officer who served in three chapters of the series and then took his leave. The work created by Rockstar GAMES has experienced an increasingly significant crescendo. Born in 2001 on PC, Playstation 2 and Xbox, over the years it has always enjoyed an excellent reputation that is typical of Rockstar titles. Unfortunately, however, when the third chapter came out, which allowed the series to also make a generational leap and make itself known to a wider audience, the software house set up the saga to dedicate itself body and soul to two sacred monsters who have dominated the entire gaming market (Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2). The title, released in May 2012, would certainly be welcomed like any other Rockstar game, for this reason a fourth installment of the series or a remastered version of the trilogy (or just the third chapter) would be really well received. Taking on the role of retired Agent Payne again and finding out how he's doing would be great.

Resistance

Another title that experienced a decidedly goliardic period that, for one reason or another, has remained in the cellar in recent years without receiving either a spin-off or a reboot, was Resistance. The work, which at the launch of PlayStation 3 it was also the best-selling of all the productions made available in that period (we are talking about Resistance Fall of Man), received very high marks throughout the trilogy from both critics and audiences. The brand was developed by Insomniac Games (authors of Ratchet and Clank and Marvel's Spiderman) exclusively for the console Sony and following its recent acquisition by the latter, some voices would like an imminent return of the title that could allow us to return to face the mutant threat of chimera. A remastered of the entire trilogy would undoubtedly be an excellent marketing operation to lead the way to a new chapter in the series that would continue to remain a Sony exclusive.

Death Stranding

Concluding perhaps in the best of ways, Hideo Kojima and its software house could not fail to be part of this small list of games that we would like to see in the remastered version. The title, so loved and hated by critics and the public (we would dare to say perhaps not understood by many), it's definitely a must have that deserves a PlayStation 5 version directly to the launch in order to show off all his artistic and technical style with a machine that is definitely in step with the times. Since the game will also be re-launched on PC during the summer, we don't see why it shouldn't be ported to the new console too (among other things, this has been talked about on the net several times). Reuniting America between one delivery and another could be a great reason to buy PS5 even on day one.

PlayStation 5: the games we want remastered

Although we could spend hours and hours writing games that we would like to see on PlayStation 5 (because let's face it, what's the problem with repurposing an "old" game that we may not have played yet and enjoying it with even more beautiful graphics?), these are the titles that have surely been forgotten over the years, not taken into consideration and left to themselves that we would love to play again. Sure that this "fashion" will not end so soon, although the Sony mini backward compatibility in part of what has been said, we will probably also see other weight exclusives such as Marvel's Spiderman, The Last of Us Part 1 and 2, Bloodborne, Days Gone, the tetralogy of Uncharted and many other works proposed on the next-gen to be able to make - as we said at the beginning - “cash” in a simple way by leveraging the nostalgia factor and to make us enjoy again priceless masterpieces.
