And after an avalanche of criticisms that anticipated the theatrical debut of Sonic: The Movie, mainly due to the design of the iconic blue hedgehog, the film directed by Jeff Fowler has managed to make the fans of the well-known brand think again SEGA, earning a whopping 57 million dollars over the opening weekend in the United States, eclipsing the results achieved at the launch of Pokémon: Detective Pikachu ($ 54,3 million), scoring indeed the best box office debut of a movie based on a video game.
According to Variety, the sequel to Sonic: The Movie will see the return of not only director Jeff Fowler, but also of Pat Casey e Josh Miller to the script. Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara will be the producers, while Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller will be executive producers. At the moment we have no more information on the sequel, as the film is still in development, but we expect to see Sonic again (Ben Schwartz) and Tom (James Marsden), the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), along with some new entries in the cast, also given the conclusion of the previous film.
